Post Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I have to admit to liking the panel lines on the few HM planes I have 2x F104, 2x MiG 21 & 1x Ju87 it must be that in my eyes they help enhance the shape of the actual plane & for me my two CW Tomcats would be a lot less interesting without the inked lines.
Having said that I can see the argument against panel lines too (my beloved TSR2 with panel lines )

Here's a few photo's of the latest Harvard released in the UK. IMHO this is HM's best yet and looks superb especially when compared to the other HM Harvards.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I think the proper way to achieve this effect is through the technique modelers use called "pre-shading".

This in my opinion is one of the worst things that model builders have ever done. Its more often than not over done and very unrealistic, atleast in the armor realm.

I think it should be noted that most models I have seen with pre-shaded panels or washed panels lines, were 1/48 scale or bigger where the panel lines aren't so pronounced..

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I find it fascinating the level of obsession some people seem to have with some washed panel lines on a little model. Maybe time to take a step or two back. Some people are ALWAYS going to prefer panel lines on the models they choose to buy and bring home, some people are ALWAYS going to prefer to buy and bring home models without any panel line wash. Lucky for us there are a number of companies producing models for us to buy, with and without washed panel lines. Personally, I just don't buy the models that aren't finished to my personal taste, and move on. All due respect to everyone's right to have an opinion, but do we have to continuously badger a great company like HM with this same fargin' thing over and over?

I felt the need to post the question because of an email I received from HM that said the majority of collectors prefer the inked wash, so I posted a poll to find out if this really was the case.. I am not badgering HM about this, I just want to know if their intel is right or not.. Apparently, its not......

Harry, I am sure HM has talked to a lot more people than the 64 who have so far voted on this poll.

With all due respect, I think it looks plastic. Looks like a toy and certainly not HM's best yet.

True, but this forum represents a good cross-section of todays collecting base.. That is also one reason why the poll doesn't expire, to give a larger number of members a chance to voice their opinion..
