Why does Hobby Master get all the grief for washes? Century's models have washes also. Take away the washes and what would the models look like? Well... they would look a lot more like Dragon, Corgi, Witty, Gemini, etc.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

Maybe this is too "black and white" of a question so to speak. I actually do like subdued inked panel lines. Even though you may not really see the lines as such on an actual aircraft, they do somehow enhance the dimensionality of a model..Even pro scale plastic model builders use this technique. But the key word is "subdued", and I'm talking heavy on the light here. The problem is, most manufacturers haven't quite seemed to have grasped the concept yet.

I love it when you spout out 'Swami' words of wisdom!

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

So if it has to be a simple "yes" or "no", I'm going with "no"

Me thinks I must protest, for I know the Skunkiferous sage, despite His outward appearance, thinks not in black and white terms, and cannot/should not be truly forced into a black or white answer.

Oh sage, Thy wisdom was truly penetrating, until Thou wrotest Thy final sentence:

WRONG ANSWER!

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I absolutely prefer the inked lines. If Corgi and Hobbymaster make the same plane, I'll buy the Hobbymaster one just because it looks better with the lines. It's just a matter of preference - no one will be able to change someone else's mind here.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

Depends. The inked Hellcat and Avenger look much better than thier cousins from Corgi without the ink and wash.

This is precisely the point. It's not a question of ink or no ink. Instead, its a matter of degree. I voted for inking in this poll, but I am very unhappy with the apparent lack of flexibility by the factories, especially when they are dealing with lightly colored surfaces. Can't the inking be toned down in such cases by using a medium gray rather than black? I agree that the inked HM Avenger looks far more realistic than the Corgi-distributed version of this plane and that goes for the F-6F also...but primarily on the dark upper surfaces. Turn the models over to expose their bottoms and the lines are overly emphasized.

Thats fine by me!

Also the Century planes that I've seen the color of the wash blends into the color of the plane, thus bringing out the detail yet not being obvious. The HM planes that I have and the example shown on the other forum just black over the base color. Black on top of a yellow Harvard does not look good IMHO.

Ooops!
