Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

Wow that kinda sucks. I much preferred my HM planes over thier Corgi clones because of the inked panel lines and wash. I guess I'll have to figure away to do it at home.

Welcome to the Forum, William. Would I be correct in assuming you work for Hobby Master?

and PS: I agree with Shawn, I'll miss the wash.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

i personally think that this is a bad thing, i will be less inclined to buy hobby master planes now, the washes was what attracted me to their product, as shawn says, without them they will be just like the corgi versions,

oh, welcome william

I don't know what all the fuss is about. So long as the panel lines are indented, it's a relatively simple matter to apply a darker wash if you prefer your model with that look---as I do.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

well i will just add the wash also, i already do that with my Dragon planes, i meant that usually, i would by hobby master without considering the corgi versions, now without the wash i would be more likely to get the corgi version as i'd have to add the wash to either, in that case hobby master is losing out on sales that they would of otherwise been gaurenteed,

it seems like a step back to me, take the CW F-14 for example, its generally considered about the best model on the market, it has wash applied, hobby master were considered probably just behind CW (at least in my eyes) and they also had the wash, take away the wash and your left with a model that is about the same as something corgi would make, and lets face it, corgi aint in CW's league

I agree with it being a step backwards as far as diecast modeling goes. If you are looking to model aircraft that have never left a hangar it is great, not so if you are trying to model an aircraft that has actually been in the elements.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

I too will miss the wash. I was just reading the other thread about the F-4s. I'm looking forward to these models, but since both of the first two releases were airplanes which had been in theater for a time, and obviously frontline combat veterans, they would look much more realistic with a little dirt on them. Cunningham and Ritchie didn't fly these off the showroom floor.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I'm kind of the opposite. I'm more apt to get hobbymaster products without the wash. I bought the camo buffalo because the wash appeared really subtle on it. I'm guessing by the poll above that I'm not the only one. But like noted above, a lot of people don't bother voting. I kind of feel bad for the guys that like the wash because if you're not into building models, you're probably not going to attempt to apply it yourself. On the other hand, with no wash applied to the model, the guys who knows how to apply it can put it on exactly like they like it and this removes the complaint of too little or too much wash.

Post Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

Hi Guys,

Hobby Master has decided to keep the washing of the undercarriage and the cockpit but will leave the panel lines unwashed after reading various opinions.

For making an overall grey scheme it is much easier to control the wash, for a camouflage scheme it is much more difficult. There is a technical problem behind this. People may wonder why we didn't make the panel lines thinner so the wash will look more subtle. In fact, the casting can be made twice thinner.

However, since this is a casting for metal injection kit, the melted metal is as hot as 400 degree celcius versus a 100 degree melted plastic for plastic injection kit. Hence, if we make the panel lines too thin, the casting will become too vulnerable to damage. Because of this, the form of wash one found in die-cast will be different from plastic kit. To control the wash for so many different types of colors that Hobby Master produced will become almost impossible.

Thank you for the understanding.

Shame .......welcome William

Welcome William!!
I won't miss the wash although I think HM should keep it on their 1/48 planes as it looks so much better on the larger planes. 1/72 is just too small for an ink wash and I think most of your customers will be much happier..
