Re: This baby looks good.

My main beef is just with people bashing the scale that's all. If you don't collect it, that's cool, but alot of people do. I just hate to hear 1/48th scale called a shame.

I don't think folks are saying it's a shame that models are coming out in 1/48. Only that it's a shame they cannot get that same model in 1/72.
Plastic kit manufacturers are more plentiful by comparison with diecast manufactureres and a modeller has choices. Diecast collectors have fewer choices, so have a little understanding if we say it's a shame we cannot get some of these great new models in the scale of our choice. We are not denigrating 1/48 scale, just lamenting the fact that we cannot share your glee with some upcoming new issues.
We live in hope that some of these aircraft will come our way, in our scale, at a date yet to be determined.

Re: This baby looks good.

1/48 scale is OK with me, I have a few and if a model looks real good (FW190 Carousel) then I buy it. 1/72 are the cheapest and dont take up so much room but if the model is a good one I will buy any scale.
GMP P40 springs to mind, now thats an odd scale at 1/35 but the model is superb so no problem.

We must remember the motto, all things come to those who wait, and I am sure 1/72 fans will get what they want sooner or later.

(Except a Tigercat perhaps or Lopes P40).

Oh I truly do agree with you here. I'm sure it's a great scale and planes done in this scale have the potential to really exhibit some outstanding detail! I think the shame is that a plane that many people want is only being done in a scale that many don't collect. I'm sure eventually the Panther will be released in 1/72 scale. As a consumer, HM lost another sale when it comes to me. I'm sure they aren't worried about it - and I get to spend my money on something else I need.

Md, I agree with you. I have a number of Models that are 1:48 scale a few at 1:32 a bunch at 1:144 a crock at 1:72. Remainder are Armour 1:100 series. These are good as representative models for the many theatres of operation we may be attempting to have in our collection.

Amen to that MD!

Sometimes I feel a little alone collecting 1/48 scale.

We 1/48-er's have it good today. Three or four years ago I couldn't find any discussion board for diecast 1/48's... now we have a good representation.

Thumbs up Re: This baby looks good.

I have to admit that I am a little disappointed about the attitude here about 1/48th scale. It is one thing to say that you don't collect it, but another to say, "Oh that is a waste", What a shame. Guys talot of people collect 1/48th scale. It is the standard scale to collect. I colect all scales, so it doesn't bother me. I just wish you all would give it a chance. I have heard people say "I wish people wouldn't make 1/48th scale stuff, so that they can make more 1/72nd scale. That isn't cool. The Panther is going to be a great looking aircraft in this scale.

This is too good a release to ignore. I have many 1:48s, but prefer 1:72 mainly due to space limitations. I'm a Korean Era vet, and this beautiful model brings back memories of "The Bridges at Toko -Ri". Holden & Kelly, what a pair, what a movie, and let's not forget the great performance by Mickey Rooney. I'm buying it, no question. Are they going to do "The Splendid Splinter's F9F? I'll buy that one in a NY minute.

Geez, Stalag, I was thinking the same thing. I almost wish to build a diorama of the "Toko-Ri" bridge and place the model in it for some pics. That was a great movie too!

Re: This baby looks good.

If Franklin Mint doesn't come out with one of these in the future I'm going to have to get one of them. I remember making a model of one when I was little.

Re: This baby looks good.

Just curious aeroeng - what does the Franklin Mint have to do with your decision to get one?

Re: This baby looks good.

Don't fight boys, each scale has its advantages and disadvantages and just go with what works for you. Hobby Master makes some models in 1/48 that the 1/72 guys would like and they make some 1/72 that the 1/48 guys would like so sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. But as that old sage jim says, all good things come to those who wait. There is no gaurantee every model will be made in every scale but give it time and we'll see. Now shake hands and go play nicely.
