Re: Preview: HA1701 Bell P-39N/Q Airacobra "Russian Ace"

I have a neighbor who's father flew P-39s for the Free French. Says his father loved it because it was so powerful compared to what they had been flying. He jokes that the French got them because they were too dangerous for the Americans. Says you had to do a careful preflight as a lot of things could go wrong with it. The French only got 165 P-39s, so I don't expect to see anyone offer one in French colors. Looks like a custom paint job may be in my future.

Re: Preview: HA1701 Bell P-39N/Q Airacobra "Russian Ace"

I talked to Yeager about the P-39. He said that it was a good airplane that got a bum rap from it being used in a role it was not inteneded to be used for.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Preview: HA1701 Bell P-39N/Q Airacobra "Russian Ace"

An absolute must for my collection, but "unrecorded" kills were scored in early part of the war when Pokryshkin was flying MiG-3.

Also, I'm extremely disappointed with HM descriptions. It looks like somebody has written a paragraph, but HM choose to print a few sentences, which don't make any sense when grouped together.

Regards,

Sergey

If you are referring to the original description Onmark used and translated, I have no idea where that came from.

In your opinion which paint scheme is correct, the one with the blue circles or the one without them?

Sent you reply via e-mail. The White 100 of the plane in question, Pokryshkin's number from May 1943 was indeed Red Star over a blue circle. However, his first P-39 was lucky 13.

Sergey

Fantastic choice on HM's part, but I soooooo wish this was in 1/48 scale... Now that would be glorious!

I'll still get this one of course.

Great choice! Yes I know some prefer aircraft in the markings of the country of origin but hey, I'll take most anything in Russian markings!

It will be interesting what Forces Of Valor's P-39 would look like in 1/32nd scale? I know their Spitfire, Mustang and Me 109 were major disappointments, but hopefully
they would've learned from that experience and that we'll see if some improvements were made for the P-39. Crossing me fingers.....
