Re: Preview: HA1701 Bell P-39N/Q Airacobra "Russian Ace"

Cool airplane. I hope that an American one is fast to follow as I collect planes in their most common markings and want a P-39 in USAAF markings.

Total P-39 production was 9547. The British shipped 266 to Russia of which 212 arrived in Murmansk. 4850 were shipped to Russia from US sources. So if you really want the most common markings on your P-39, it should be the red star.

Re: Preview: HA1701 Bell P-39N/Q Airacobra "Russian Ace"

An absolute must for my collection, but "unrecorded" kills were scored in early part of the war when Pokryshkin was flying MiG-3.

Also, I'm extremely disappointed with HM descriptions. It looks like somebody has written a paragraph, but HM choose to print a few sentences, which don't make any sense when grouped together.

Regards,

Sergey

This is the one I'm hoping for as well. No blue circles.

Maybe when it's all done it will look like this one.
I agree i like just the red star on there myself without the blue circle..
But this is how the aces plane looked..I'm still getting it.

True, but it is an American plane, and there are plenty of American aces that flew it, that would make a great early start. When I buy a Spitfire, I want mine to be in RAF markings, even thought the U.S> flew them as well.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

True enough. Several American aces flew the P-39, Bud Anderson being one of them. Interestingly, America had only one P-39 ace who achieved all 5 victories in the type, Lt. William Fiedler Jr. Unfortunately he was killed on Guadalcanal waiting to takeoff when a P-38 suffered engine failure and collided with him.

But the Russian front was the where the P-39 was in its element. All combat was below 12,000 feet. As a side note, the President of Bell Aircraft Co gave engraved watches to nine Soviet Aces, all of whom had shot down 20 or more enemy aircraft as of 24 June 1944 flying the type.

My first choice is one hawk and I want which is Shomo's Snooks 2nd, but I will add a Russian one as well, because like you said, they did use a ton of them.
