I would love a photo recon version as well.

Nice idea. And since the second issue of the HM 1:48 F9F appears to be the photo recconasance version, there is hope they might do the same with their Spitfire.

Re: HA7101 1:48th HA7101 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIVe (pics)

I finally received JEJ. I was nervous about keeping my preorder on this one; I generally do not like to preorder models, especially new castings that are unproven. I grew somewhat uneasy as unfixed issues such as the cockpit/pilot and unpainted rearview mirror surfaced. However, I am happy to report that I am glad I kept my preorder. Now I can chime in based on seeing/having/holding/strafing the cat with it: it is a beautiful model. The panel lines are not as overdone as I thought they would be (not necessarily the wash, but the depth is what I was concerned about). As Ara pointed out in another thread, the fit is incredible. The five blade prop looks stunning/wicked/awesome (you choose the appropriate adjective). In short, I like it, LOTS, despite the cockpit/pilot issue and the unpainted rearview mirror, or any other issues that have already been pointed out.

I have one small problem: when the canopy is slid into the closed position, it pops up, leaving a gap between the bottom frame and the fuselage. The door also pops up with the canopy, leaving a gap between the bottom of the door and the fuselage. Its not really a big deal with me, because I like it displayed gear down, canopy open. But, I am curious why it is doing this, and I haven't figured it out. Has anyone else experienced this problem, with this model?

Elmer, I too have the very same issues on mine that you mentioned above. At the moment I'm still at the 'trying to figure out' stage and am looking for some possible fixes or workaround.
I've observed that a bit of 'shaving or beveling' is probably needed between where the canopy and door interlock meets at the closed position. I'm a bit reluctant to try it out at the moment,
but if I can't see any other alternative, I might just force myself to just go for it.

Elmer, to keep the canopy from popping up - have you tried your own famous glue?

Hee, hee... no, 'slide I haven't. As I indicated, I prefer to display it gear down and canopy open anyway, thus not a real big issue, but I am just bugged that I can't figure out why it does this.

Thanks for your post, fly. Glad to know I am not the only one with this problem... well... what I mean is... not happy that you have the problem... what I mean is... oh well, I guess misery loves company! Let me know if you get a fix to this.
