Pics of new Gitmo USN SNJ-5

Picked up the new SNJ-5 today. Another nice product by Hobbymaster, especially for such a reasonable price.

Basic mold looks pretty good to me, though I'm not enough of an expert to be too critical and have no reference books handy to compare with pics of the real thing.

Paint is very nice- love the yellow wings with the grey fuselage. Markings are also very crisp. Canopy is nice and clear with decent cockpit detail, consisting mainly of pilot and traines's seats and panels. Panel lines are evident and some will not like them, as they are more evident on the light surfaces, but I still think they give the model some life. I can't help but think, however, that if HM simply used some shade of gray instead of black they would be so much better.

One area for improvement, I think, involves the wing leading edge landing lights (or whatever they are). They are painted silver and I think clear plastic inserts would be much better, even if price goes up a bit.

Attached are a few pics, including of the box. HM has used a new style box with more graphics and more vibrant colors as well as a gloss finish. Unfortunatly, no pilot, however.

Nice pics... I looked at one of these the other day, but didn't pick it up because the inked panel lines just aren't to my taste..

Re: Pics of new Gitmo USN SNJ-5

It looks nice, but with the EI 1/48 version coming out this summer (hopefully!), I don't feel the need to pick that one up.

Thanks for posting pictures, though, Old Crow.

Re: Pics of new Gitmo USN SNJ-5

As I collect 1/72 almost exclusively and I've been wanting a Texan so mine is on the way and should be here tomorrow. Didn't see any other makers or liveries on the horizon so I picked this up at the Mule. Hope it looks as good in person as in the pics.

Just got mine from the Mule today and it's outstanding! The dreaded wash is nicely done on this one...
