Re: Hobby Master helicopters

My votes go to the Hind, CH-53 (and/or MH-53), and Eurocopter Tiger (though I doubt that last one would ever be made due to low interest in the US market).

I love the UH-1 and the Apache, but already have a couple of each in 1/48, so...

On a side note, I do wish Corgi would make their CH-47 available in a decent US Army livery of some kind...

Re: Hobby Master helicopters

Darn right on the U.S. CH-47, FVD! I'd love to get one of those.

Yep, that's the only reason I haven't bought a Corgi CH-47 yet. Hopefully it will still come. I want one, but not an RAF or Australian AF, etc... I want a US Army one.

Re: Hobby Master helicopters

I heard the Air Force SOFs ( or whatever you call them ) was / is seriously considering using the CH-47 in place of the 53, as the 47 has fewer issues and requires a smaller support package. Of course that was based on a conversation I had a few yrs back.

PS They say there are over 100 authorized leaks on a CH-47. Makes you feel real good about flying on one.

Re: Hobby Master helicopters

FVD, I've seen some of the 180th AV CO CH-47s on-line, but I'm not willing to pay the price for one of those. A plastic model will probably cost about $30 to build.

Yes, same here. But I'm still hoping Corgi will come out with another US Army livery some day.

And Shawn, you are partially right, the AF chose the HH-47 (based on the CH-47) for the Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) role, but: 1) that is not an AF SOF mission, it is "conventional AF" (though AFSOC does it as a secondary role when need be) and 2) the competition was protested by other manufacturers as unfair and now we have to start the process again. The "real" winner will be announced later this year from what I've heard. Could still be the HH-47. My rescue buddies at work like the idea of the HH-47 as a good solution, apparently. We'll see...

AF SOF are getting CV-22 Osprey to replace the MH-53 (SOF version of the CH-53). First ones are already at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
