I would challenge anyone to find an uglier aircraft than that! Is it pregnant? By the way, if the Panther was the 1st Navy jet to see combat, what was the 1st Navy jet?

Would that be the McDonnell FH-1 Phantom I?

Actually, the Navy's first jet was the Ryan FR-1 Fireball.

Picked some plans off of the AMA site to make a stick and tissure version. It will rubber powered up front and have a Rapier rocket motor in the back, not sure how well it will come off, but should look pretty cool for the first few seconds. Got some nice pictures of one of these at the Planes of Fame Museum. Never really tagged this one as a jet, thought of it more as a hybrid.

Celtic...just take a shotgun approach to collecting (like me) and the problem will be solved!

I'm disappointed, but not crying. In reality, room and rubles rule, so I'll wait for the Corgi/GA/Witty version...In the meantime, I'm saving up for those 110's.

You don't think this might be uglier?

Considering its a mutant of a otherwise fine plane, I can't get too upset. But the basic F9F and its twin are butt ugly.

I did a little research and I think the F6U-1 Pirate was one of the U.S. Navy's first PURE jet fleet fighters.

You are correct; the Navy's first pure jets were the FH-1 Phantom, F6U-1 Pirate, and the FJ-1 Fury. Even though the Fireball is a hybrid, it is considered the Navy's first aircraft with jet power. It does have the distinction of having made the Navy's first jet powered carrier landing.
66 of these were in service in 1945, but never saw action due to Japan's surrender.

So what kind of paint scheme are we looking at on this bird?

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
