Sorry, this one and its cousin or twin are the ugliest things the USN ever flew. Still holding out for the FJ-3/4 Fury.

You don't think this might be uglier?

First US Navy jet fighter used in combat...

Have to agree that it is too bad it wasn't in 1/72. I just can't afford to collect more scales than I'm already involved in (1/1200, 1/400, and 1/72). Wonder why HB decided on 1/48? A 1/72 version would have been great to display next to the Hellcat. (HB is probably working from some master plan, but from down here it looks like they are taking a shotgun approach to scales.)

Celtic...just take a shotgun approach to collecting (like me) and the problem will be solved!

That is an Douglas AD-3W Skyraider, the airborne early warning version of the Spad. It was the homeliest US Navy plane I could think of.

Why all the fuss about it being in 1/48th? If it is a big enough seller, I'm sure a 1/72nd version will follow shortly thereafter. Maybe it will spur GA to put one out to accompany that 1/72nd Skyraider that's coming...

Related to HM and 1/72nd, I for one think that the Brewster Buffalo could work in this scale. IXO's I-16 is 1/72nd, and it's a pretty good model. IIRC, the I-16 was a smaller plane than the Buffalo...
Anyway, ya'll snap up these 1/48th F9F's so a 1/72nd version can come along...

I would challenge anyone to find an uglier aircraft than that! Is it pregnant? By the way, if the Panther was the 1st Navy jet to see combat, what was the 1st Navy jet?

Well, first off I love the F9F, so I am thrilled. Second, I love 1/48th. it is the standard scale. I like it becuast there are more details, and people can see it better in a display case. That being said, I also take the shotgun approach and buy all scales. I will get at least one or two of the Panthers.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
