Fokker D. XX1 in 1/48th scale?

Last edited by Cruver Collecter : 02-29-2008 at 09:18 PM.
Another aircraft that would look pretty good in 1/48th scale would might be the Fokker D.XXI. Aircraft has nice lines and could be modelled in a variety of paint schemes. Could go with Dutch, Danish, Finnish, and looks like there might have been some flown on the Republican side in Spain. Finnish variant would be unique in that it could be modelled with standard under carriage or skis. Fokker would be a unique plane to model with it's early war looks and fixed landing gear.

Cool Re: Fokker D. XX1 in 1/48th scale?

Honestly, I am not very keen on Fokkers...

On the other hand, I do think the IAR 80 would be a much wiser choice, don't you ?

Probably one of the best and sexiest design from small nations in WWII.

Re: Fokker D. XX1 in 1/48th scale?

Both would be fine choices, but from a manufacturer's profit-risk viewpoint the Fokker is a far more likely candidate for a 1:72 mold due to the numerous paint schemes that can be rendered. My quess is that both of these planes will have to wait until someone tries a P-36, hopefully also in 1:72--per my particular preference. This is a plane that lots of collectors seem to want done in diecast.

I swear Guy, I NEVER thought I'd agree to differ with you p.n.f. - but you been munching too many sweets with chemical-trace, or just gone plain barking mad ????????

That 'thing' (I.A.R. 80) is PUTRID IAR.80 IAR.80 IAR.80 IAR.80

"Praise the Lord" that there's only one colour-scheme available............AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta go with Cruver Collector on this one.....
since I built my 1st Fokker D.21 on vacation WAY back in 1971 (a 1/72nd scale Frog model)
I've ALWAYS had a (very large) 'soft-spot' for this attractive Dutch fighter......

Back in 1971, I painted mine up in Green & Black camouflage & yellow cowling, before adorning it with Finnish markings
(the old 'Frog' kit gave you markings for both Dutch & Finnish versions)

Both that, & the triple-tone Dutch scheme are very attractive......& enhance an already good-looking little plane

If someone done a decent example, in metal, I'd snap it up !!!!!!!!!!

An exotic choice, but (luckily) one with various schemes - a potential 'little-beauty'

I think I know who has been munching too many sweets with chemical-trace... and he is barfing all over the page.

BTW... I think both birds have their charms.

Re: Fokker D. XX1 in 1/48th scale?

Sure, a Fokker D,XXI would be OK in 1/48, but surely there are far, far more pressing needs in that scale, even if you restrict the category to single-engine WW II fighters/fighter-bombers. Such as the already mentioned P-36/Hawk 75, but also P-39, He-162, Typhoon, Tempest, Yak-3/9, La-5/7, IL-2, Macchi 202, I-16, etc... I'd even prefer, personally, any of the French Air Force fighters from 1940: D.520, Ms-406, MB-152... The Fokker is nowhere close to the top of my list, I'll tell you that.

But I would buy one (probably not more, though) if made.

Some of the ones you have listed would be high on my list of aircraft I would like to see put out in diecast. Italian, Soviet and French aircraft could really provide for some great new additions. With the exception of those put out by IXO this selection of aircraft has remained fairly untouched. My interest tend to cover the aircraft that were used during the opening stages of the war, were there was still a mix of the new and the old in regards to aircraft development.

This beauty, combined with ANY of the 'Finnish' birds, makes for a VERY persuasive argument for it to be made....
