Re: How about a Curtiss P-36/Hawk 75 in 1/48th scale

Nope, Continuation War (i.e. WWII) and Lapland War against the Germans. Surplus French and Norwegian ones. I have a very rare Finnish book (unfortunately, in Finnish published in 1975) on Curtiss Hawk 75A service in the Finnish Airforce.

Here are some thumbs from that book as well English write up

Love those pix & Illustrations in your book, Sergey.

Are there any modern publications that you know of that might show these examples (or pix) ???????

Here are some more appealing paint schemes for the P-36/Hawk 75:

Do not mean to jump in on this one, but if you can ever come across Air War Over Finland 1939-1945 in VHS or DVD, pick it up. It has just over an hour of some of the best WWII aircraft footage I have ever seen. Footage of Fokker D.XXIs, Fiat G 50s, MS 406s, Curtiss Hawks, Brewster Buffalos, Blenheim Mk.1s and if I remember right some Gloster Gauntlets and Gladiators, also some neat footage of Dornier Do 22K on floats. Of course there is footage Ju 88s and Bf 109s too, plus still a few other aircraft ( Have to watch it this weekend to see what aircraft I missed). Footage is of aircraft being serviced, taking off and landing and inflight shots. Excellent movie and highly recommend.

Re: How about a Curtiss P-36/Hawk 75 in 1/48th scale

I'd go a P-36 in 1/72.

Ditto. I'd like to see Gabby Gabreski's P-36 from December 7th.

Nope. The are couple of books that I've seen on Finnish airforce in English, one is the old AirCam title "Finnish Aircraft 1918 - 1968" or something in that vein. The other one was Squadron title Finnish Airforce 1939 - 1945. Finns published a lot of books on this subject, albeit all are in Finnish without even English captions for the photos. I remember seeing books titled British Aircraft in the Finnish service, and, of course Soviet Aircraft in the Finnish Service.

To their credit, it should be said that the Finns were the first Western country to publish an absolutely exceptional photo series on the VVS during WWII titled Red Stars in the Sky which came out in three volumes in 1981, 1981, and 1983. The period black and white photos as well as proper captions still hold up extremely well to what is out there today.

Regards,

Sergey

I did watch a bit of the movie and here are some of the other aircraft in it. Avro Anson I (Boy does it have a lot of glass), I-153, Soviet SB-2, Bristol Blenhiem Mk IV, Blackburn Ripon II, Junkers K 43, and a Fokker C.X so far. There is also some neat footage of a MS 406 being serviced to include removal of wing armament. Some footage of the Brewster Buffalos shows Captain Hanse Wind's Buffalo taking off.

I would go for one, and there are plenty of paint schemes.

Oh yes! That would be great for sure in the 1/72 scale.

Followed up on the rest of the movie and some of the other aircraft seen it were a DC-2, Polikarpov I-16, Dornier Do-17, and a LaGG-3. There was some interesting footage of a Polikarpov I-153 in flight with skis in the retracted position.
