Thumbs up Got my Mig 21, Awesome

Well I just opened my Mig 21 Polish Air Force and all I can say is wow.

At 1st I was a little put off thinking the thing was mostly plastic, and while the top half pretty much is, it still has a descent amount of die-cast and looks fantastic, what neat markings this one has.

Quite a few parts to attach as well, also the missiles or bombs are attached to the pylons so you need to put the pylons on to have the plane look right which of course means you can never have bombs off?

Still all in all a great diecast jet at a very low price for the detail, as much as I like my Corgis, if they had done this model it would have been well over $30.00, I guess Dragon too. So Hobby Masters has done it again, they are fast becoming my second favorite 1/72 scale mfg.

Flaps,
Only second favorite? Wow, you have remarkable restraint. Hobby Master is number one in my book all the way!

Can you elaborate which parts are plastic?

Flaps,

I will tell you what holds me back, too slow at releasing new models.

And this one is not perfect, the airplane is way cool, but I think when some others get this in there hand they are going to question the large use of plastic and the pylon thing?

My Dauntless are great but is it me or are the panel lines too much???

Do not get me wrong, for the price expecially, these are pretty amazing especially compared to Corgi or Dragon.

It is a shame someone can not figure out the formula to making around 750 to 1000 units in any given airframe and markings, keep the retail pricing in the $20.00 to $28.00 range for most models and keep it mostly diecast metal, accurate and correct colors and shape. Make the gear fit well and include a descent stand.

None of the stands on the market are very good, Matchbox has by far the best looking stand, Plane sits up high enough, Markings on the stand are attractive and it fits and supports the plane pretty good at an angle.

Dragons stands are crap, Corgis Vary but have gotten worse over the years, Forces of Valor are a joke, short little pieces of poop, IXO are actually pretty nice, Witty, so-so, theres another one out there I have some of and the stand if lousy too, very short and ugly just can not remember the name.

Just my humble opinion, Flaps

The very large tail fin which goes all the way up to the cockpit is all plastic, The two alerons of course all the accessories, I am not 100% sure on the rest of the fuselage, The large wings are metal but most of the rest feels like plastic, The fuselage may be metal but if it is it must be hollow.

Well, this kind of disappoint me. I have its Ju87 tank buster and the majority of the model is metal. I thought all its future release will be the same way...

Thumbs up Re: Got my Mig 21, Awesome

Do not be disapointed it looks great all put together. It just feels kinda light and as I said the bottom and front as well as wings are metal.

And for the price no one can touch the quality of the look and finish.

Would have been nice if they had made the tail fin up to the cockpit in metal as well, but it is still real neat.

Re: Got my Mig 21, Awesome

They probably had to use plastic at the aft end to get the CG right so that the bird would sit on its nose gear properly. The Corgi Meteors are done this way.

Re: Got my Mig 21, Awesome

I don't care how much plastic is used for detail parts and some main parts....as long as the plane looks good

Thumbs up Update Re: Got my Mig 21, Awesome

I just got done looking over / playing with my new Mig, the last post was right plastic or not it is really neat.

The underbelly is 70% diecast, the front nose back to the cockpit of the fuselage is plastic. The entire tail and top of the fuselage is plastic. The alerons are metal. The replica has gear up and gear down options and they are very detailed, the extra pieces qty is 17 not including the gear itself.

The plastic parts and the metal color seems to match really well and the fit where there could be gaps is very very good. There is an unusual bump up by the front gear on the bottom near the front, I can not tell if they is an error or supposed to be there?

I am ordering a 2nd so I can keep one boxed and one to display/play with.

Really cool release.
