Re: A change to Hobby Master 1/72 tanks

This thread should be moved to the "Ground Vehicle Models" section of the forum. I would have never even noticed it if it were posted there to begin with and I would not have gotten myself involved in the discussion. LOL

P.S.
I started a thread in "The Pub" titled "Die-cast Defined" in case anyone's interested.

Re: A change to Hobby Master 1/72 tanks

Hawk - Will HM put "plastic display model" on the box rather than "die-cast display model" to warn us of the lack of metal content? I certainly hope so (If the chassis is the only thing that is metal it shouldn't be considered a die-cast model).

I sent an email suggesting just this but I haven't heard back and Hobby Master is attending the Beijing Toy Fair this week coming so I might not get the usual quick replies. It probably was just a slip but you wrote "if the chassis is the only thing that is metal". The chassis is the part that will be plastic in most cases. The turret and gun will be metal.

Hey Hawk,
What I mean is that if there is only a token amount of metal used solely to increase the weight of the model, don't call it a "die-cast display model" on the packaging.

I know what you are saying but I think as long as there is more than 5% metal companies, all companies are going to call it die-cast. I think it is more a word association thing. If someone said "I'm going out to by a plastic military model" right away you think Accurate, Hasegawa, Trumpeter or Easy Models. "I'm going out to buy a die-cast military model" and (hopefully) the first thing people think of is Hobby Master, alright, maybe even the other companies.

Re: A change to Hobby Master 1/72 tanks

I think people associate "diecast model" with "pre-built collectable," as opposed to "plastic model" which, in many people's minds, is a kit you have to put together and finish yourself. (Not necessarily on this forum, but in society at large.)

And when you think about it, people call plastic cups and corrective eyewear "glasses" even when they're plastic. They also use titanium golf "woods" and read the "paper" online... Is a plastic "diecast" any different?

I'm glad to see that HM has kept the "metal" content high in their aircraft models so far.

I agree and I also agree with everything else you have said here.
The point of collecting diecasts is that they're metal - period. The base, chassis, turret and preferably gun should be metal whenever possible.
I will pay $25-$30 for a metal 1:72 model, but not for a plastic one.

And with tanks you don"t have to worry about missing swazis!!
