Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

I have the RAF model, and am extremely pleased. But now I also want the Dutch East Indies model, too.

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

As I said before the Buffalo is a outstaning model & the new version look great, but I would really love to see a Midway version as mentioned.

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

Two 1:72 models with drilled holes come to mind: Dragon's Wildcat and Witty's Sea Fury. Also, Dragon's folding wings Corsair (but of course the wings are plastic). I have been arguing all along that I am eager and willing to pay more for the added detail.

I don't believe these models have one-piece, solid metal construction for their wings, but I may be wrong....

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

Famous last words -- just wait until a Finnish or Midway scheme comes out

The HM mold is based on the F2A-2 / B-339. Buffalos used by the Finns were B-239s (roughly F2A-1 equivalents). If I am not mistaken, Buffalos at Midway during the time of the Japanese attack were F2A-3. The B-239 and the F2A-3 both have relatively significant differences to the F2A-2 / B-339 (noticably in the cowling area); see J. Baugher's excellent web-site: http://home.att.net/~jbaugher1/f2a.html. So... if HM is to produce an historically accurate Finnish or Miday model, it will need to adapt its current mold. I sure hope it does; of all the Buffalo variants, I want the Finnish livery most (along with some detail "fixes" as has been noted throughout this thread ; even if the wing gun blast holes cannot be recessed).

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

I purchased the RNZAF Buffalo as a reminder to myself of courage of the pilots who flew them. Outclassed by the Zero, they met the enemy in an unfaltering fashion and gave of themselves in many hopeless situations. The model is a monument to them and a pride of place in my collection.

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

I just ordered Mr. Sharp's Singapore Buffalo. I am really looking forward to getting this one. My first 1/48. I was looking at a book on amazon called "Buffaloes over Singapore". Anyone have it? Is it good ?

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

My Hobby Master Buffalo just arrived ( RNZAF version operating in Malaya circa 1941 ) and it rivals Carousel's FW-190D as the best 1:48 scale diecast airplane replica that I have seen. As Elmer points out, if HM is going to produce an F2A like the marines used at Midway it will need to reshape the cowling area and make a few other minor changes. I hope HM does this since the saga of those marine pilots who rose to face the Japanese Zeros and paid a huge price for their heroism has always stirred me.

"Buffaloes over Singapore".

Here in the Orlando area....I have seen many "buffaloes" in the local Walmarts, Targets and even K-marts. Ain't a pretty sight when they are wearin' tube-tops and spandex and they think they are "hot".

I just received the latest in the Brewster Buffalos series from HM today. The USN Brewster F2-A2 Buffalo VS-201 USS Long Island paint scheme looks great. Like the two other Buffalos in series, I can find no complaints. I found a nice shot of the real plane in flight in Squadron Publications F2A in action on page 16 along with picture of its carrier on page 18. Picture of HM Singapore Buffalo can be found on page 30 of same issue. I hope that HM puts out some more Buffalos in the future. Finnish variant would definitely require some adjustments to cowling, few too many gas vents (6 too many) and the exhaust stacks would have to be moved lower. I still will have to hold out hopes for a Finnish variant though and especially in either WO Imari Juutilainen or Capt Han Wind wound make for a neat paint job. To other hopefuls could possibly be model 339B in Belgium markings and Model 339-23 in Australian colors. The Buffalo has always been a favorite and look forward to adding the Dutch variant later this year.
