Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

I haven't read the entire thread, and if this model has a flaw I don't want to know about it. The package blows, but the model is beautiful.

I can't wait for this one to show up.

Don't worry Gavin, these HM Buffalos are possibly one of the best value for money quality diecast around even though the subject matter is not that aesthetically pleasing to the eye i.e. UGLY little beast .

[quote=Elmer;47756]This is curious, given that there are several 1:72 models on the market from companies that successfully accomplished this.

The wings are made from one piece of solid metal, which is where the difficulty lies (not all makers give you as much metal content) -- same deal with 1:72. The pooch paints guns on some of its birds, too, such as the Spit. It's late, and I may not be thinking clearly but Gemini is the only 1:72 maker that springs to mind that actually molds the holes for the guns in the wings -- at least on the P-51s. The Spits are painted on.

Actually, looking at my Witty Spit, it has drilled outboard guns, but I'm not sure if the wings are solid or not -- feels much lighter than the aforementioned 1:72 Spits....

In 1:48 -- it appears FM does them on at least its corsairs. (At an MSRP of $70-90, mind you.) But it's far from commonplace I would say. Looking at my EI Mustangs the guns are molded -- but in both cases, FM and EI, I'm not sure if the wings are hollow or not. I think the FM Corsair maybe, EI... ???

Regardless, for $35 we're really picking nits

If HM adds all this stuff, I doubt that price will stay the same...

I can see how you feel that way, but I think they're kinda cute!

I hear ya, PappyB. The Finnish markings/livery is what I'm patiently waiting for!

Re: HobbyMaster Brewster Buffalo

Me too. I'm getting one from Big Guns Collectibles when I go there in person at the end of next week. Top of my list of models to buy while in the States for a few days.

FVD

Well, FVD and I went up to Gerry's Big Guns Collectibles today and I finally got to meet Gerry. I ended up buying BOTH versions for the Buffalo. Yeah, I know they are 1/48 scale and I stick to the 1/72 scale...but they were sooooooooooooo nice. Had to buy them. Picked up the IXO Russian La-7, Corgi PR99408 Hellcat (White 17), and theDragon Me-262 Red "B". Also got 4 coffee mugs and a set of coasters with various WWII aircraft on them. So it was like "Happy Birthday to me" 6 weeks early.

Two 1:72 models with drilled holes come to mind: Dragon's Wildcat and Witty's Sea Fury. Also, Dragon's folding wings Corsair (but of course the wings are plastic). I have been arguing all along that I am eager and willing to pay more for the added detail.
