The real last Skyhawk

Last edited by skidmarksdiecast : 05-18-2007 at 01:30 AM. Reason: Added more info
I found some pics of the real Last Skyhawk online. HM's paint scheme depicts the bird as delivered by Douglas to the Marines. Once the Marines got a hold of it, they got rid of all the Navy references (can't imagine why =P ) and changed the tail to read "SKYHAWK II".

Here's a pick of the new HA1401...

and a link to pics of the real bird as delivered by Douglas...

Yeah looks a bit off.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: The real last Skyhawk

The blue is not so bright in person, it's the lighting in the photo.
Im looking at the model right now & the blue is darker.

I trust the Phantoms words. He is my diecast guru and friend. Put those torches and pitchforks away fellers.

Re: The real last Skyhawk

That's also a pretty old and bad photo. I wouldn't rely too much on the accuracy of the colours in the picture.

No, like the man said, this is what it looked like AFTER the Marines got their hands on it. Also like the others said, lighting has a large part to do with.

Re: The real last Skyhawk

Someting isnt right here, the plane in the photo does say Navy Marines and does not have a different tail,. Looks the same except the color which in that photo who could tell, looks tinted and bad angle with sun and old.

Still a neat picture though.

Re: The real last Skyhawk

Can't say I was angling to get this one but the more I look at it the more I'm tempted.

I swore the same thing before, but now I just finished ordering that Skyhawk at the House of Hobbies website and ordered one.... GO FIGURE!

BTW, I have a postcard sent to me by McDonnell Douglas' PR department of that pariticular A-4M scheme and HM got it quite right as far as the right shade of blue.
