Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

Found another really nice option for a P-39 paint scheme. Boyd (Buzz) Wagner's P-39F he flew over New Guinea.

Yep found another paint scheme that would make for a nice looking P-39 (Actually P-400). Richard Suehr's P-400 which he flew over New Guinea and he was credit with one kill in this plane.

Okay here's my question: If Cruver Collecter can find all these really interesting USAAF schemes on his spare time, why can't HobbyMaster? Or is it that they have, but they just rather give us boring, uninspiring schemes because they really rather we didn't buy their models? Hawk, time to forward more pictures to HM.

I kinda like the Devestating Devil's look. And I'm sure there are more to come that we'll all like. After these two hit the shelves we'll see more.

The first P-39 is an outstanding choice, Pokryshkin's 'White 100.' As far as USAAF schemes, they all look good to me, even the boring one.

Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

Found an interesting article covering interior colors of Allied aircraft and this is what I found regarding the P-39. Makes you wonder how standardized the P-39 was as far as interior paint scheme is concerned. Site I found this at made for some good reading. Added site address at end for anyone in want of some interesting reading.

Bell P-39 Airacobra

Despite its massive production numbers, this aircraft appears to be relatively poorly documented. Available colour photos show Interior Green and Bronze Green for cockpits; Interior Green, Zinc Chromate Yellow or Aluminium lacquer for wheel wells; nose undercarriage legs painted with Olive Drab and Interior Green; wheel hubs in Interior Green and natural metal. It would seem that the jury is still out for this aircraft.
According to Bert Kinzey in his Detail and Scale book on the P-39 the interior colour used by Bell was called just Bell Green. That included the cockpit, the wheel wells, the landing bay doors and the undercarriage struts. There has been a lot of discussion as to what exactly Bell Green was. The suggestions go towards something similar to Medium Green.
Based on the analysis of a preserved Lend-Lease P-39Q-15, the inside of the wheel wells was painted in Zinc Chromate Yellow for the wing part and Olive Drab in the part overlapping the lower fuselage, apparently a result of separate painting of the subassemblies at the factory. The undercarriage legs and internal faces of wheel covers were Interior Green, with smaller actuating arms finished in Bronze Green. Additional piping and wiring was painted in Aluminium lacquer.

Devastating Devil will get a new paint job on the upper half and it will look great. It's not all green or all grey but these will come. Pokryshkin is what I think an excellent choice because most people want some more Russian planes. These are only the first two and already you guys are complaining because they don't suit your taste but there are others that just might appreciate these. Sometimes I think what they have to do is release about 20 at a time all with different paint schemes and I bet some guys still would have a problem. I have no problem with guys suggesting paint schemes or pilots, at least these are constructive but I'm really getting P'd at all the whining because they didn't read your mind and make the scheme that you wanted first. Sometimes I wonder why the H I even bother doing this.

I like to start off by saying that your hard work and efforts are extremely appreciated. You definitely act as the collectors' advocate with communicating our interests to Hobby Master. For that I have to say thank you (That and please don't stop). I like posting plane shots to spark fellow collector' s interest, that I and try to dig out some articles that my provide some useful information. The one I just dug up on the P-39 interior color was quite interesting. (Oh, and is there any chance of you taking a look back at the Buffalo thread?)

Hang in there Hawk we all appreciate the time you take to monitor all the forums and communicate with Hobbymaster. What we have to realize is that no other manufacturer has taken corrective steps nor do they respond to the collector the way Hobbymaster does,............. thanks mainly to your efforts.
Some folks may get a little carried away with this accessibility but I'm sure it is because the opportunity just does not exist elsewhere and we are like kids in a candy store.
All the best.

You do it because you love the things, and have found a model company you really like and want to represent. The complaints you get are really the result of HM's success, and their ability to produce so many excellent models and model varieties at such a fast pace. Personally, I enjoy the process, and can enjoy a new model even if it isn't something I'd want to collect, and I think most collectors feel the same way. The minority will just have to live with the apparent agony of disappointment. Please be assured that your efforts are both useful and appreciated.
