Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

Don't give up on them just yet. I have sent every comment from this and other forums along with my own input and hopefully there will be time to turn this thing around. Stay tuned and I will update everyone as soon as I have anything new.

Thanks Hawk - you're the best! Upon further review, I think I'm going to rethink this purchase. The gear - while further back than it should be - doesn't seem to be excessively so. I can live with it being slightly back in order for the plane to sit on its nose. I'd rather the plane was all metal then have it be half plastic.

Ok - there are the plans I referred to. If you compare, you will see that the top fuselage air scoop is too small and various panel lines are off such as those on the tail fin and wings. The green color I referred to is for all variants if you can trust this book anyway. I think this series is known for its research and accuracy.

Like the looks of the Soviet version, but can only rate the US version as lukewar. Most of the pictures I can find of the P-39 look to have the interior green color as apposed to all silver. Some of the early test aircraft pictures I looked at were all silver, but looks like most of the combat aircraft pictures had the were interior green color. I also dug out some picture of a P-39 that was at an airshow at Nellis AFB and it too had the interior green color on landing gear.

It looks like the nose guns are faired out but no guns are shown. Ah come on - you gotta give us the nose guns!

Most of the pictures I can find of the P-39 look to have the interior green (Zinc Chromate) color as apposed to all silver. I also dug out some picture of a P-39 that was at an airshow at Nellis AFB and it too had the interior green color on landing gear.

The interior green used on the landing gear is not "zinc chromate green" from the color photos I've seen. It is more of a "dark green" (not "olive drab") similar to what we are used to seeing in fighter cockpits.

You are correct, not chromate in the wells but not quite OD.

Stand corrected, pictures I have of restored P-39 further support your statement. You are correct in that it is definitely darker green.

I'm trying to find out what ever I can and giving them as much input as possible. I don't expect a definite answer for a few days until they mull over all the data and comments I have sent them. I know that is what you you want to hear but it's the best I can do at the moment. I will stay on this until I have an answer one way or another and I will post what ever I can ASAP.

Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

Thanks hawk1 ! I just hope that prepro was made out of clay and the molds are not set yet. Not that it is that bad but HM has done and can do better I think. Are you getting more positive or negative feedback on this one?
