Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

I think the CoG problem could be easily fixed just by adding a little more metal in the nose to weigh it down some and
I am glad to hear that HM listens/ takes suggestions as to how to improve their diecast..

Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

The Russian aircraft will certainly be joining battle with the 'Frederichs, Antons', and Gustavs' in my Eatern Front section! If the real thing looks as good as the pre-pros it will be a winner. The US aircraft will need some work done on the panel lines I feel. I'm unable to comment on the colour as I'm colour blind !!

IMHO the black panel lines ruin the American one and I wouldn't order it unless that problem is fixed. The Pokryshkin P-39 looks great and I've placed a pre-order for one.

Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

I've been anticipating the P-39 from HM for a long time now, so very glad to see it's on the way soon. Paint issues aside, I don't like the fit of canopy to fuselage - some gaps there. Also concerned by what looks like prop droop on the USAAF model, but maybe it just hasn't been pushed all the way into place on this model.
Finally, the choice to move the main gear aft to prevent tail-sitting doesn't sit well with me. Surely there's a better way, but probably not a cost effective one, so I'll live with it.

The wash is a bit IXOish on the US bird. I thought the prop hub was black not yellow. I don't know how HM could do the wash unless they go with a light brown maybe. I like the red outlined insignia though, hope that stays. I'll get one though looking forward to a Guadacanal version.

I already suggested weighting the front but they said they can't. If it had been a 1/48 scale they could have but not in the 1/72 scale.

These are pre-productions and the fit of the canopy and other parts and the prop will all be taken care of before they get to retail. Hobby Master has never released a model with prop droop and I don't expect they will start now. I wish they had waited until the pre-pros had a little more time to be worked on before releasing pictures. They look like they were only about 90% done on the pre-pros and put the pictures out. I'm hoping to have them make new photos available of the retail version as soon as they are finished. If they do I will replace the pre-pros with the new pictures.

Like I said in another post, after studying the problem the only solution was to move the gear back a bit. Since it is 1/72 there is no place to add extra weight up front. I suggested hollowing out the rear fuselage some how but apparently that isn't a viable solution. I guess they might have used more plastic but then it wouldn't be a Hobby Master model. What it comes down to is this solution was the lesser of several evils. I know for a fact they spent several weeks just trying to come up with a solution for this one issue.

Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

I think they did a great job on this model but I agree that the main gear are way too far back. I also see that the flaps were reconfigured to allow the gear to be so far back. I wish they could figure a better way than to re-write history to solve the tail sitting issue. Even a little clear plastic prop-up would be better than this.

Agreed - a Guadalcanal version with the British camo and shark mouth would be awesome!

Re: New P-39 Photos on HawkOneVoodoo's website

I'll have to see the real thing, but the back u/c looks kind of bad to me. Looked at some pics, however, and they look at least somewhat far back there too, so we shall see. Overall, though, I'd prefer to have the u/c in the correct spot, and if it would not sit on its three legs, I'd either use double-sided tape for the front landing gear, or display it in flight. Either way, problem corrected!
