Re: Would You Like To See Hobby Master Make A P-51D Mustang ?

Andrew,
Help me out because your post isn't making sense to me. If you are fighting for space to store your 1:72 and 1:200 fighters, why does it matter to you if HM "diverts" resources from its 1:72 line to produce a 1:48 P-51D? It sounds as if you are "space" maxed, or nearly so anyway.

well, if i can find enough space for a 1:48, then i'm sure i'd have space for maybe 2 nicely done 1:72nds or 4 very very nicely detailed 1:200's.
1:72nd seems to be the most popular scale, especially in places like Japan where its packed with people but space is a premium.

And so far, HM has been turning out great variety and detailed 1/72nd's. wouldn't want to compromise for a 1:48 market that is not as strong as a 1:72nd.

I have a feeling that even the 1:200 market will pick up more strength too after the herpa and World Aircraft Collection releases so far. Only downside of Herpa is the high price.

But anyway, i'm the type of collector who would prefer to have more high quality variety in my collection space, if i can, over size

Re: Would You Like To See Hobby Master Make A P-51D Mustang ?

Personally, I'm a little concerned over the apparent selfishness and 'self-interest' being displayed by some of the 1/72 crowd - look at the bigger picture folks and try and make the pie bigger instead of following a nonsensical 'zero-sum' approach that believes if more 1/48 are produced by HM there will be less 1/72 to go around ... get real!

In terms of your comment, its not selfish to the collector. If anything, its the other way round. Think about the company as well. If it goes and makes 1000 1:48, and sells only 4-500, will you pick up the bill for the rest of it so that a company like HM can keep operating?

especially with yet another mustang in that size and scale. Looking at whats been out in the market, I wouldn't take that step any time soon. Even though there are heaps of people who may be just a little bit unhappy about their 1:48 mustangs, do u think they would fork out a lot just for a slight improvement?
I don't think those 1:48's would come cheap you know.

I do understand your point of view Andrew and the tone of my post was possibly a little harsh, perhaps 'selfish' was not the best choice of words ...

Andrew,
I think the point Cardo tried to make is that it seems there are 1:72 collectors voting no on this poll, because its a poll for a 1:48 scale model, and 1:72 scale collectors seem to be somehow worried about that. Hobby Master has already decided it will do a 1:48 line and has 2 models on their way to vendors. That is a foregone conclusion. They want to know which aircraft to put on their shortlist for 1:48. If you don't collect 1:48, why skew reults of this poll by voting? I think 1:48 scale collectors want a fair hearing among 1:48 collectors about the P-51D (i.e. a 1:48 scale P-51D model now, or something else). I can respect the vote of a 1:48 collector who votes no because he is happy with his FM/A Mustang, does not want a Mustang, or wishes something else first. But I bristle at 1:72 collectors voting no on this poll if they will not collect a 1:48 model; why? The issue is important among 1:48 collectors. Many of us feel passionately about a better 1:48 scale P-51D being built (or not); I can't see why you or any other non 1:48 scale collector should care. You seem to indicate you have no room for 1:48 scale models, so why vote? It does seem a bit self-serving for 1:72 collectors to vote no on this poll, just because they will not collect a 1:48 scale model. I have never voted on a poll for a scale I don't collect, why should you? And there are people voting no on this poll (or at least suggesting as such in their post) who are on record as not collecting 1:48.

If you don't want HM to make 1:48 scale models, let them know, or start another poll. But please, please, ALL NON 1:48 COLLECTORS, if you do not collect 1:48 please be considerate to those of us who are trying to poll sentiments among 1:48 scale collectors.
