Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

I do hope though, they are not eliminating the exhaust stains from the weathering, I think these add to the model a great deal! I would jump on the sentiment for a very subtle and light wash. And the release of pilot figs is great news!

Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

Quite a quandary I think. I can't complain about all my factory fresh Corgis! I think the weathered look does have lots of merit. The Polish Mig 21 looks very good. The bottom line is that HM should just ease back little. It's great having exhaust stains etc with some light wash. I agree with PappyB, I'm in favour of lighter wash with lighter schemes and vice versus. If HM is exactly the same as Corgi, what's the point??

Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

Definitely! I was under the impression they were going to try using a lighter wash with light-tone paint schemes and a darker one for the darker schemes -- did that get abandoned in favor of this "test"... so it would seem. I would have liked to see them try the first strategy, wel... first

(The pilot figs are great news!)

I think Hobby Master has come to the conclusion that it is very difficult and time consuming trying to control the amount of wash for panel lines especially on the 1/72 scale models because of their size. Some models were or are being done in the lighter wash but even the lighter wash has the same problems. Doing this is the only real way to find out which is better for the customer. Using comments and actual sales will give Hobby Master a true picture of what the majority of collectors want. It will be like a lot of things, majority rules. Once again Hobby Master is listening and wants to settle the great "Wash Debate" once and for all.

Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

Re: Wash and panel lines. I recently had to return a Corgi Predator TBM because it was missing some parts. The dealer (JT's Collectibles - awesome customer service) gave me the option of trading it for an HM TBM. When I brought it in to work, the details stood out so much that my coworker (who collects armor) thought it was a different mold. So I am for washes.

Re: Pilots. I am also for pilots, and can't wait for them to start showing up.

I am also for washed pilots, because if they don't shower, the cockpit gets manky.

Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

I would like to see some light wash on some of the planes ...Just not so much where the panel line stick out more then the plane itself.
Pilots will be a plus for the planes.

Thumbs up Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

Majority rules most of the time, but not always . I find it weird that Hobby Master is dropping the weathered panel lines when their surveys show the "overwhelming majority" want them .

PS. Please drop the weathered panel lines on the 1:48 scale also .

Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

The only Predator in my collection is the Bush Avenger and it seems to me that it is a bit 'pristine'. Many collectors prefer the clean look but I prefer slight weathering, exhaust stains, and a pilot figure. IMHO the HM have a slight edge over the Predators. Pilots please!!

Yes but how did they get that data in the first place?? Could be that they didn't ask the people that buy the planes. Unwashed versions have been available for some time, so I wonder if they have done a comparison of Predator sales with their own version?

Personally I'm pleased to see the back of it. Not sure if I'll purchase due to funds exhaustion, but it will be interesting to see a HM/HM comparison.

It would have been even more interesting if they had taken one of this batch and washed 50% so that we would have 2 versions of the same side by side to see which one sells best.

Ooops!

Re: to wash or not to wash and pilots

Including pilot figures is an important selling point for me.

(and I was able to put a Dragon pilot in my HM A-10, too)
