Peculiar Odor from new A-4E model.

Last edited by ac4313 : 09-14-2007 at 08:14 PM. Reason: spelling
I just got the new A-4E "John McCain" model today. When I opened the blister packaging and removed the model, I noticed a peculiar and really pretty unpleasant odor. I set model on its stand and put the box away, then put the model on a shelf over my desk. The odor is definitely coming from the model, it got so unpleasant that I had to move it outside. I tried cleaning the model with alcohol, it still has the stink to it. This has not happened with any of the other HM products I've purchased, has anyone had anything like this happen? It's not so much a "chemical" type odor, like paint or solvent etc. It's more like a nasty organic odor. I am just about to the point that I might throw it in the trash. If anyone has any idea what the heck this is I would really appreciate any information. Thanks.

I've never heard of that before, and I have all the latest releases out. Maybe it was a fluke?

Considering the troubles that are happening with Chinese products, God only knows what it could be. Did the model have a greasy feel to it, or was there anything leaking from it?

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. There was no oily film, or anything leaking from it. the plastic parts do have a kind of shabby, dirty look to them, and there is a nasty fingerprint on one of the fuel tanks or napalm containers or whatever it is.

Maybe it's one that Skunky returned?

It's not just a "fresh paint" smell is it? I've had that with a few HM models I've received that were hot off the assembly line, but nothing that had any real "hang time" certainly...

I wish it was just a "fresh paint" smell. No, this odor has a decidedly organic sort of smell to it, not chemical at all. At least no chemicals I've ever been exposed to. As for hang time, I took it out of my office at least 40 minutes ago, and it is still noticeable when I walk into my office. Boy is that ever a drag.

Skunky... What did you do to that model... Never mind, I don't want to know.

Isn't it tomato juice that kills skunk order? Maybe the guy putting it together left some fish in there for that official Hanoi Hilton Nuc Nam aroma.

God forbid and I hope it ain't some rotting human or animal part encased inside that diecast. Sorry to sound so morbid about it....
