It could be mineral oil. Ixos ooze the stuff all over the place and it smells nasty.

Leave it with me and I will see what I can find out for you. Don't do anything else to it. Don't clean it or wipe it, just leave it the way it is. I got my McCain on Thursday and, after reading the post about the odor, I opened the box and did a sniff test. ALL CLEAR
