Re: Why Why Why does Hobby Master Use Crap Boxes???

No, I'd rather not waste a buck. You seem passionate about these boxes and that's great, I don't presume to tell anyone how to enjoy their hobbies. But for me, once I take my model out I never look at the box again. If I want to see the plane, I can look at the one I have displayed, I don’t need to consult the packaging. My planes could come in a plain white box and I wouldn't care as long as it protected it during shipping. That may seem “stupid” to you, but it sure makes a heck of a lot of sense to me. Why would I want to pay a single cent more for something I don't need?

I dont even know how to respond, I can not even understand how someone into aviation would not enjoy the kind of data Corgi Includes with the Predators about the exact plane and pilot. How one could not appreciatte the better quality more colorful package????

I for one enjoy every aspect of the hobby. And I personally can not display every plane at one time so a safe and quality box is important, The HM boxs are not safe, they crush easily and scuff easily. My last two shipments had damaged boxes, yet the outside box was perfect.

Also as great as it is for HM to do the data card on the A10's it was a weak attempt, small and insignificant. Still like the planes though.

You would not pay $1.00 more for the same Hobby masters plane in a Corgi Quality package???

I would

I believe the price difference is $10, not $1.

I'd pay the $1, not the $10.

A box improvement would not be $10.00, now if you mean the difference in a Predator and Hm, I only paid $32.00 for my Bush Avenger in the Predator line in a perfect nice sturdy box with lots of info on the plane and more, On the Hm slightly diffferent version I paid $28..00, so the diffference in these is only $4.00 and my Predators if overall way nicer.

I think it's pretty easy to understand the difference between enjoying something and actually wanting to spend money on it. Can I appreciate pretty boxes? Sure. Do I want the price to increase in order to get them? No. That's not a difficult concept to wrap one's head around. I buy these items because I enjoy collecting and displaying model planes. While these planes happen to come in boxes, I do not care about what the boxes look like, nor do I concern myself with numbered cards or production sizes or any of that. I'm not buying information (there's plenty of books out there where I can get my history without relying on Corgi boxes) or rarity, or a return investment…I'm buying scale replica aircraft. How those planes look on my shelf is my one and only concern. That’s what I appreciate most.

I'm all for Hobby Master making their boxes strong enough to safely store models when stacked, but the last thing I need is to pay more for boxes that are just fancier. I don't need more colorful boxes anymore than I need boxes with scratch-n-sniff panels with sound effects chips and holograms that glow in the dark. The planes are enough to get my money. The rest is clutter. Now that might not make me a "serious collector," but...Oh well! I'm having fun.

Sounds like they left your supplier in a damaged condition? Either that, or the were packaged inadequately.

Actually, I would not mind the boxes being plain white, with just a bit of info on what's inside...but of course manufacturers want to attract potential buyers' attention from as early and far as possible. I do wonder who buys a particular diecast because the box-art was cool. I think printing adds more to cost than a thicker cardboard.

As is said the outer box was perfect, they were packed carefully, I called this vendor and one other, and both told me they have had massive issues with HM's boxes and damage. Too the point that they have extra outer boxes folded and are sending me a couple, but he warned me even these boxes are so so at best since they are so thin, they get damaged and bent real easy. I also had to pay $4.10 to get them, so now we are creeping up on the price of a well done and well boxed Corgi Predator.

Re: Why Why Why does Hobby Master Use Crap Boxes???

Presentation is important folks. How the bird is packaged and presented does mean something. However, like FormerViperDriver said, no one goes out to their garage, or over to their display case to admire the box.

To me, the box presentation is nice, but not THAT essential. Will I pay extra for the box? No. I'll just as soon take it in a plain white box.

What I will pay a little extra for is something that comes with the bird, like a card or booklet that I will look at. The box itself goes in the garage for storage of the bird when I swap them out. I like the Gemini "collectors card", I like the pilots notes that I received with one of my Corgi Spitfires.

However, the things that I REALLY like are the opening canopy and ladder that comes with my Lysander. The optional cockpit displays that come with my Hobby Master Dauntless. These are the things that I will spend a couple of extra bucks for. Hobby Master is giving us this right now. The optional weapons loads are exactly what I want. The plane history that I understand Hobby Master is working on is great. I want the vendors to put their effort into THAT part of the presentation. The box? I forget about it as soon as its packed away.

How much of the presentation is the outer box? Some, but mostly for the vendor who is trying to sell the bird. Once its sold, the outer box is pretty much useless outside of storage. You'll notice that when someone posts pictures on the forum, whether a vendor or regular member, they show pictures of the bird, but never the box. I'd be willing to bet that NOT showing the box has never dissuaded anyone from buying the bird they want. A plain cardboard box would not dissuade me either.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Why Why Why does Hobby Master Use Crap Boxes???

I even save the shipping boxes with the packing peanuts. I get real upset if the address label is marred in any way. I have built a vast climate-controlled warehouse on my estate, where they are filled with dessicant packets and mothballs, individually hermitically-sealed in plastic, then covered with not one, not two, but three applications of Spraylat before being cataloged and stored away in separate fire/flood/earthquake/tornado/nuclear blast-proof steel vaults.

I take this hobby very seriously and I'm a serious collector.
