Bentwaters or Woodbridge - go on, you know you want to!

Hold on, I'm in Leicester??

Yeah, but Jim........ Maple's a regular poster on the Brit forum, plus, if I'm not mistaken, a resident 'Flypast' forum guy (like me good-self

Agree with him about Bentwaters/Woodbridge & the 'WR' tailcode.

When they (A.10's) first came over in 1980 & replaced the resident 'WR' F.4 C/D's, they originally were (something like) an ALL-OVER

WHITE !!!! OR a VERY, very pale grey that made them appear almost White, certainly lighter than later shades.

Very shortly thereafter, they were repainted to suit their new environment in the E.T.O. in the 'European One' or 'Lizard' scheme, as it

came to be known, which was typical of the later A.10's & Alconbury based RF.4's.

I actually photograped a pair of A.10's patrolling along the Hunstanton coastline(1980), one 'White' & the other in 'Lizard'/'Euro.1' paint.

Sadly, they looked small on the subsequent 35mm print, as I only had a fixed lens on that Ricoh (being a cash-strapped teenager).

Shots like that prompted me to change the SLR system to an Olympus with a 75-300mm lens to photograph a/c.

I kept the print though, for it's rarity factor.

Don't see many early 'White-ish' A.10's, photo'd or modelled .

Hi folks, guilty as charged, used to post a fair bit on MH1.

Missing the glory days of A-10s in the Bentwaters ATA, KC-135s on the refueling areas, the Aggros in Delta 310, F1-11s declaring emengencies left, right and centre and watching SR-71s bombing around (ex-radar op)

Re: Which A-10 would you like made?

Well it's not hard to figure out which one you want now Waltz.

Honestly, I'm pushing more for a MA ANG, CT ANG, or MD ANG as the PA ANG has been done by Franklin Mint. Of course I wouldn't complain, but i'm trying to be reasonable here (think F-104 Really George). I'm definitley against the JAWS scheme (sorry bud!), and all for the workhorse grey modern schemes. I would just love to see one of these ANG units that have 1) been overseas and 2) are planes WE can see flying everyday (you know what i mean?). I also think it would be a heck of a nice gesture towards the men and women of those units instead of these once and done schemes that kind of have no real relevance or history behind them.

Re: Which A-10 would you like made?

Hawkonevoodoo,
Hey there.

The A-10 I would love to see made would be from the Air National Gurad squardron based in Essex, Maryland. I grew up just down the road from the airport and used to see these guys fly overhead all the time.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what squadron this is, nor do I have any pictures. On the old forum I put out a shout for some help and someone posted the squadron logo (An Oriole with boxing gloves, which looked really cool actually.) so maybe someone here can help me out?

Thanks.

Anything for a weird life.
