A-4B Skyhawk load/weapons question.

Just opened my A-4B VA-106 USS Essex. [Love it, by the way!]

Forgive my ingnorance here with the correct terminology - I tend to focus on WWII in my collection, so I'm not really up on Cold War/Modern jets. [But this one was just too cool to not pick up.]

Am I missing something? What am I missing?

Evidently the jet cannot be loaded as the line drawings on the box - i.e. with the larger tanks/bombs (?) on the inside and the single rockets on the outside. Is there a way (without modifying the model) to display it as the outline drawing shows? (Is the line drawing on the box an accurate portrayal of the wing weapons/tank load? What about the rocket pods included with the model? How/where are these supposed to go? - as there is a female slot on the pod, but no "male" part to slide into the wing. (Get your minds out of the cutter )

Thanks in advance from this "jet challenged" forum member.

I don't have a retail box so I don't know what it has on it but the A4-B only had 2 wing pylons that is why you can't use missiles and wing drop tanks. It's one or the other.

Re: A-4B Skyhawk load/weapons question.

no pylons for the zuni rocket pods and only one pylon slot in the wing?
last skyhawk model has slots for 2 pylons on each side of the wing.

Re: A-4B Skyhawk load/weapons question.

A b model shouldn't have outboard pylons...

Maximum External Load Capacities:
Fuselage Centerline Station (all models) = 3,500 lbs
2 Inboard Wing Stations (all models) = 2,200 lbs (ea.)
2 Outboard Wing Stations (all except A/B/C/P/Q) = 1,000 lbs (ea.))

Re: A-4B Skyhawk load/weapons question.

Thanks for all the replies/looks.

So, just to clarify.

Hobbymaster has the load option correct on the A-4B model - 3 points for load attachments: centerline and one slot under each wing.

There is no way to attach the zuni rocket pods on hobbymaster's A-4B (making that weapon accessory useless.)

An A-4E would have 5 points for weapons/load attachments: centerline and 2 slots under each wing. (wing load capacity was increased by 2,000 lbs over the "B" model.)

Re: A-4B Skyhawk load/weapons question.

DADoser,

The pylons for the rocket pods are the same ones used for the missiles. Detach them from the missiles and attach them to the pods and voila! You can now mount the pods onto the wings. Have a look at the photos on the Mule's website, the series show fuel-tanks/missiles/rocket-pods attachments.

Hope this helps.

Ditto the rocket popds work fine, you just have to take a second to figure out they mount on the same hardpoints the missiles are on.
