What gives with the Bush Avenger?

Why does HM have the tail number on Bush's Avenger as X3 and Corgi claims 2X ? Is this a case of two different birds flown by Bush, or did someone screw up???

Re: What gives with the Bush Avenger?

From what i understand the white X3 was the Avenger that President George H. Bush was flying when he was shot down over the island of Chichi Jima on 2 September 1944. This plane was built by Grumman, and was identical in every way to the Avengers employed by the U.S. Navy and Marines, with the exception of markings. White X2 which was the Avenger that Bush normally flew. This plane was particularly heavily weathered.

The Bush Memorial Library has this photo on it and states that the aircraft
is IDENTICAL to the A/C flown by him. Tail indicates 2x

Re: What gives with the Bush Avenger?

Maple while that is correct for 2X, and Corgi did the noseart right, the put it on the wrong side. It should only be on the starboard side. The below pic is I believe from the 3X.

They mind boggles how they get this stuff wrong! Could it be reversing negatives or something?

Here is a pic of Bush's X2 Avenger and it doesn't have noseart on the Starboard side..

Re: What gives with the Bush Avenger?

Could that be before it was added. I always thought that most navy aircraft had the noseart on the starboard side. I could be wrong though.
