Re: My 104's

The F-104 has always been a particular favorite of mine. I have a question for the members who are, say, 42 years old and up. Do you recall, in the sixties, when TV stations actually signed-off for the evening? The stations where I grew up (Southern California) would play a short file before playing the national anthem. The film was a dramatic off-camera reading of the poem "High Flight" and an F-104 was filmed flying in sync with the poem. It was absolutely beautiful and I still remember it.

Perhaps this is why I have such a soft spot for this plane. BTW, you can actually purchase a copy of this film on video, but I would think it would need to be remastered from the old color film of the period.

But I digress. Nice collection of 104s! My resistance to buying the Greek AF version is weakening a bit by seeing your pic!

Oh man, did that ever suck! I do remember them playing the national anthem accompanied by various military-themed clips. There were few things sadder to hear than "this concludes our broadcast day. Channel _ will return to the air tomorrow at 6 a.m -Goodnight", when you were stuck at home, wide awake at midnight. It seems like the public T.V. channel stayed on about one more hour than the 3 networks so I would watch The French Chef or Jack Lalane until even it tragically would turn into a test pattern and a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep ----and then there would be nothing to do!...It was horrible, just horrible. How we ever survived those days I'll never know. And don't even get me started about having to get up off the sofa every time I wanted to change the channel. Good thing there wasn't much surf to surf in those days....and if there was a special program ya wanted to see then you damn well had to make sure your little bum was parked in front of the tube when the show was scheduled to start or hope to catch it when it returned again in the summer re-run season....the horror!...the horror!

Why oh why did you have to remind me of that dark era in history,Blackie?...

Nice '104s, Nockers! (although for the life of me I have absolutely no idea what they have to do with old television)

Re: My 104's

I don't remember that. I do remember when we got MTV when I was like 10. Oh yeah.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: My 104's

Sadly, MTV is no longer a benefit to man or anybody...but it used to be...back when they showed the likes of Susannah Hoffs in The Bangles!

Smile Re: My 104's

Neat pics Nockers. I'm waiting for the camo one but seeing the Greek one, quite tempting.

Skunky, looks to me you've got a real good point on MTV there. Very nice.

Oh man!!! ....I always thought she was very hot! The F-104 aren't too shabby either! I do have both the silver and camo versions but not the Greek one...but very tempting though.

Re: My 104's

(My sincerest apologies to Nockers for hijacking this thread)...btw I like your collection of F-104s.

Hey Skunky, did you see the Luftwaffe F-104s guests during the Moffet Field Air Show & Open House in the mid 80's? I would love HM to give us a German F-104 livery complete with day-glow orange band tip tanks!

Oh my heavens!.......Those F-104s.....I love them!...I love them...I love them
