Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

Inked is an effect that could be duplicated by taking a black felt tipped pen to the panel lines of your model. Shaded, or Washed as I know it, is a soft airbrushing of the the panel lines with a darker shade of paint.

Then I agree that "inked" lines should be avoided. I collect Armour 1/48s, so I don't have to deal with *that* issue.

I do, however, prefer the shading that results from a wash being applied.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I always understood washed to refer to applying a diluted color to fill gaps or engraved lines with a different or darker color and wiping away the excess from the rest of the surfaces. Have I got this right or am I all washed up?

That's my understanding as well.

What threw me was a couple of posts early on in the thread indicating that the "wash" used by HM for the "inked panel lines" had not been toned down and should be toned down.

When I used to paint wargaming miniatures I used to have ink's that you would brush on to give a shading effect. As these were watery they would run from the smooth surfaces to fill in the features (ie panel lines)

So to avoid confusion lets amend the question (A bit late now admittedly) to:

"Do you like the weathering HM do to their planes?"

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I shouldn't have included the term "washed". I was referring to shading or preshading.

Ink lines When I received my IXO Avenger I was taken back by the inked panels, there is an Avenger at Planes of Fame in Chino CA and there are no black lines running thru their plane. It doesn't stop me from purchasing an aircraft if no other manufacture produces one.
