Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I don't mind inked panel lines, but it doesn't really make or break the decision of whether I will buy a piece.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

Personally, I have 8 HM models now and it doesn't bother me at all. I think the weathering on the FAA Hellcat is excellent.

On the other hand, some of the ixo models have the look of something your two year old nephew had got at with a biro!

Weathering is good but the keyword is subtle.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

Don't be put off by photographs - these without doubt over-emphasis the inking, making it appear far more prominent than reality.

I agree, but I still wish they were not there and it does keep me from buying too many HM planes. I also think the dark schemes show them less and I try to get those. I'm sorry but the A-10 and Bush Avenger pre-pros look like crap. I am very dissapointed over these and now will either buy the Flight 19 one or wait to get a Corgi in both. Come on HM change the finish process just a bit please. HM, were buying the Corgi version of your planes! HELLO?!?!

Re: What does everyone think of the inked pannels

I like it; however, I cannot tell that HM has toned down the wash, as Hawk indicated several months back. The wash needs to be lighter still, especially on surfaces of models with lighter colored areas.

I agree, seems they sometimes use a Gundam pen or sth similar to draw the lines. On a recent release you could clearly see the black line crossing over the national insignia! That was not really a wash.

I am happy tough with lines on the F-104 Pussy Cat and the Soviet MiG-21SMT, they don't look so black.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

The Hobby Master inked panel lines don't bother me. I think HM does a much better job than Unimax (Forces of Valor) does. However, I personally think that panel lines should not be accentuated unless the model is going to be fully weathered. Inked panel lines, on a non-weathered model, just seems like a half-hearted attempt to improve realisim.

Welcome to the Forum, Skidmark! Say, the name wasn't taken from a certain Corgi B 25 (OH 7 maybe?) was it? (ok, ok, I'll be nice now!)

Is this what you guys mean by "inked panel lines"?

No, there is a big difference between inked and shaded.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

Hence the question . . .

Maybe I just don't understand the distinction between "inked" and "shaded" since several posts in this thread have discussed "washes" being applied in the context of inked panel lines. A "wash" to me implies shading.

But I do agree with whoever stated that inked panel lines on an otherwise mint condition bird are bogus. But then, a mint condition bird is highly unusual, unless it's a showbird or it just rolled of the Grumman line.

I personally prefer a weathered look, like it just arrived home from a six month cruise. Rust is hell.
