Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I'm not a big fan of the inked panel lines, but they won't stop me from buying an aircraft I really want. Hobby Master's bother me less than IXOs.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

Panel lines on diecast models are usually over done without the inking, and way overdone with it.

That is one of the reasons I like Easy Models, subtle panel lines.

Thumbs up Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I tend to like panel lines with a well applied light wash, failing which no inking is preferable (as with Corgi models).

I tend to agree with this line of thought. I would would work for me.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I like the inked panel lines, if done correctly. This goes for all weathering. If done correctly they add to the value and realism of the model, IMHO. One of the reasons diecast models appeal to me is that the finish (if done properly) is better than I could acheive on my plastic models.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

Aircraft manufacturers go to extremes to reduce drag and ill-fitting skin panels are a primary source of drag. To emphasize the joints, especially in 1/72 scale is totally wrong. I will not buy any model, no matter how much I wanted it, if it has inked in panel lines.Ugh!!!!!

Where the model producer could improve things would be by defining panels in slightly different shades of bare metal such as were common on USAF Century series aircraft where different grades of aluminum or titanium where used. RAF jets rarely had different materiels, so the panel lines could virtually vanish on a scale model.

When the model makers start reproducing miniatures of composite built aircraft, can we hope the lines will be a thing of the past?

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I certainly don't like panel lines as per Ixo Jnr/Altaya - they are way too overdone. However, I have no problems with the Hobbymaster's I have (currently have four in my collection - 2x Stuka's, 1x Dauntless, and 1x F-104, with lots more on pre-order!). I feel the level of inking and general weathering of the models enhances the look.

Don't be put off by photographs - these without doubt over-emphasis the inking, making it appear far more prominent than reality.

Re: What does everyone think of the inked panels

I personally don't like it. I stopped buying IXO's because of there panel lines. Have a few HM's, just bought a few more but when I look at them next to a Corgi or even a MB the panel lines make the model look toyish, with this in mind I probably will steer away from future HM purchases till or if they clean the panel lines up.

Thumbs down Against !...

Definitely. That's why, in spite of my loving HM products, I selected Corgi A10 over HM's...
