Early MiG-21's

Now that HM has put out some Mig_21's, mainly late model ones, are there any plans to make the earlier versions, like the F, F-13, and Chinese J-7 copies? How many people would go for those?

Re: Early MiG-21's

HM has put out two early Mig 21's, just not under their name.
They were put out under Corgi Predators line, which HM maikes for Corgi.
The predator models differ from their HM counterparts in packing, lack of wash & on some models lack of fine details.
None the less the two Mig 21's put out under that line were pretty good.

Re: Early MiG-21's

Are the national insignia on the right side of the camouflaged version supposed to be upside-down? I would also question the rocket pods, my impression is that the few MiG-21's the Vietnamese had were treated as "special" and didn't see ground support missions.

Re: Early MiG-21's

I agree the rocket pods on NVAF Mig 21's never happened, the last thing they wanted to use their few 21's for was ground attack.
Heck most of the time the Mig 21's strayed from dogfighting with U.S aircraft all together & favored hit & run tactics.
The good news is the rocket pods are optional, the bad news is there are no missiles included.

Hey, good catch on the right wing national insigna! Mine is the same way, so it's not just a one-time mistake. Never noticed it until you pointed it out. It's the same way under the wings.

Although I have found pictures of North Vietnamese MiG-21s in some of my books, I still haven't found one where I could see the wing insignas well enough to determine if it's really supposed to be like that, or whether it's a mistake. Anyone know?

On the original question by Rush104, yes, I would be interested in early MiG-21 versions. The Corgi ones are not the earliest possible (they are PFs, not Fs). So yeah, sign me up (in 1/48 scale, Syrian and Egyptian markings circa 1967! But I'll take 1/72).

FVD's right, the birds pictured above are not the earliest generation MiG-21's. Admin's post with the Israeli bird is the version I'm talking about. The F-13 version would make a more accurate counterpart to the F-104, while the birds pictured above will go great with the HM F-4's.

Re: Early MiG-21's

Here are some pics from the Wings Palette website. The East German and Indian birds are F-13's, while the Pakistani and Iranian birds are Chengdu J-7 copies. These, along with the Israeli plane, and the Egyptian and Syrian ones FVD mentioned, would make good looking models IMO.
Side note- wouldn't that Iranian one look good sitting beside an Iranian F-14? I know, it would look better in the gun camera footage from a Navy Tomcat, but we're talkin' MODEL airplanes here...
