Re: Hobby Master's 1/48th Scale Brewster Buffalo

Love the U.S. Navy pre-war colors. Right plane - wrong scale! And I so much want a quality diecast U.S. Navy Buffalo in my collection. Oh well, sorry HobbyMaster, more money you lost out on.

Re: Hobby Master's 1/48th Scale Brewster Buffalo

Ever since this thread started I have been racking my brains about this aircraft. I was sure that the RAF had some. Then I thought to myself ,you stupid man not the RAF it must have been the Fleet Air Arm, I rummaged about in the loft and found some info. The FAM took delivery of 5 examples for evaluation. After testing I think they were used as target tugs. Now I can relax. dont you just hate it when you think you know something but just cant quite bring it to mind.

God Bless America.

Re: Hobby Master's 1/48th Scale Brewster Buffalo

Hey Jim!

Funny you should mention this. I am currently reading "First Team" by John Lundstrom (excellent read, btw!). I googled his name, and found an archive of an old usenet argument between Mr. Lundstrom and Erik Shilling, a former Flying Tiger.

After nosing around a little, I found an account of a dogfight by Mr. Shilling between himself in a P-40 and an RAF Buffalo in the Far East. Apparently, the Navy/Marine pilots in the Flying Tigers were badmouthing Chennault for his choice of the P-40 over the Buffalo. Chennault took a chance, and challenged the RAF with their Buffaloes to a mock dogfight. Mr. Shilling flew the P-40 in this engagement against an RAF pilot who was a Battle of Britain ace, and won handily. I can't remember the address, but I think if you google "Erik Shilling P-40", you will probably find it.

Re: Hobby Master's 1/48th Scale Brewster Buffalo

Any Finnish ones? Thanks god it's a small small since I want a couple.

Regards,

Sergey

Like you Sergey, I would love to get this one in Finnish livery, and in particular that of the personal mount of Eino I. Juuttilainen, LeVv 24 - scored 94.17 victories, 34 kills flying the Brewster F2A Buffalo!

Hawk... thanks for your review of the RNZAF Buffalo, much appreciated! It appears from the pictures that the guns in the nose are recessed, correct? How about the guns in the wings: recessed or painted on?

Is this the one your talking about?

Re: Hobby Master's 1/48th Scale Brewster Buffalo

I think Shilling is correct out of that. I like the gun analogy.
