Re: HobbyMaster Double Props

Too right Jetfan, The Anson trained more aircrew than just about any other aircraft. 11,000 of em? crikey I didnt know they made so many. I had the airfix model once and can tell everyone that it would make a great diecast in 1/72. there are about as many paint schemes as aircraft. One for Corgi to do one day perhaps.

Re: HobbyMaster Double Props

I saw one that was very nicely restored years ago at Geneseo

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: HobbyMaster Double Props

As well as the Annie, I'd also like to see the following from HM:-

A-20/Boston/Havoc
B-26 Marauder
A-26 Invader
Baltimore
Ventura
Hudson
P-61

To complete the RAF Bomber Command set, hopefully Corgi will do the Whitley, Blenheim and Stirling

Re: HobbyMaster Double Props

Jim,

A Shagbat would be very nice; they saved a lot of lives as part of the ASR efforts and did sterling work catapulted off cruisers on ASW and spotter work. I don't think there was much variation in colors, the silver pre-war and grey/green topsides with duck egg blue undersides. Four compositesquadrons of ASR units operated them with a variety of unit codes. The cruiser birds lacked landing gear, the rest were amphibs. Surprisingly, 744 were built. Initially, they had metal fuselages, but the bulk of them were made of wood, extingencies of wartime material priorities.

Does anyone have any idea how the Walrus acquired the soubriet "Shagbat"? It seems to have originated very early on in its life.

After the war, several were used as whale spotters, so there is an opportunity for civilian markings. They also served with the RAN, in fact one is being restored in Ozz at the moment for a museum.

Re: HobbyMaster Double Props

Hi Jetfan, I have checked through all my info and every bit of info starts with, affectionately known as the Shagbag but no explaination as to why.I know the Swordfish was called stringbag because of its ability to carry just about anything but Shagbag?? Maybe its to do with the bird called a shag??I remember being told by an ex FAA chap that the Walrus was amazing because of its ability to land in heavy seas and somehow take off again. plus of course it had that superb engine the Pegasus that would run forever.
