Thumbs up Re: Pics of the New Starfighter

I have the Franklin Mint version of this aircraft, and it is great. I might have to end up getting the HM version as well.

I've also got the Franklin Mint 1:48 version and think it's really cool.

Re: Pics of the New Starfighter

I just received my "Really George" yesterday and am very happy with it. Overall the fit and finish is well done and it looks great in my collection. The only concerns I have are with the fit of the wing tanks (fall off easily) and that the fuselage mounted missles cannot remain attached if the model is displayed on its stand. Really minor quibbles and nothing that prevents me from enjoying this model.

I will certainly be adding the Vietnam version of the plane once it becomes available.

You can display the F-104s on the stands with the missiles attached. A tiny drop of white glue will take care of the wing tanks.

Re: Pics of the New Starfighter

Thanks HawkOne for the pics. The two missles on their mount are a closer together than what is shown on your pics. I didn't want to force the stand mount between them and risk breaking something. It looks like an easy adjustment though so I'll give it a try.

I also added the dab of white glue (as any Dragon collector has on hand) and that took care of the other problem of the tip tanks dropping off.

Excellent model! I look forward to adding another one (or two) to my airfield)

If you are successful in mounting your missiles, please post and let us know. I also had the same thought as you and did not want to damage anything, so I left mine off.

Re: Pics of the New Starfighter

I have hooked the end of the stand tripod through 4 F-104s so far and nothing has ever broke. Once you do it to one the rest are very simple to do.
The bottom pictures with close-ups pretty much show how to do it.

Re: Pics of the New Starfighter

I managed to pop one of the missles from its track, however, a quick drop of super glue fixed it without a hitch. When I replaced the missle I was able to tilt it just far enough for the lip of the stand to fit between the fins as in HawkOne's pic. Perfect!

It sounds like Elmer and I both got one where the guidance fins on the missles were a wee bit closer than on other models. No problem at all. And if the pop off their track they are super easy to glue back on - you'll be the only person to know you did.

Give it a shot Elmer. You may need to gently finesse the one end of the stand between the fins, but once there it goes together nicely.

Thanks Hawk!
