Re: How many would like HobbyMaster to make a P-61 Black Widow

Here is Lady in the dark's nose art. She had the last kill of WWII

My foggy, foggy 35 year old memory seems to recall a Revell? model of this bird. Does anyone know if I am simply dreaming?

Re: How many would like HobbyMaster to make a P-61 Black Widow

A definite YES. I love those two big Pratts and the sinister black color. I don't have many of the oddball scale Model Power models, but I did get the P-61 and even in such a small scale it looks cool.

If HM will make the 'Black Widow'...let it be the nose art pictured on the lower left corner. I really like Milton Caniff's "Miss Lace" theme like the Corgi's BOL B-17 nose art!

I'd love a P-61. I wouldn't mind seeing a P-38 in nightfighter colors, either.

Hey folks,
Let's keep in mind Hobby Master's history. If we speak up, we get what we ask for.

I think that Hawkonevoodoo deserves another in a long line of congratulations for seeing this through for us.

Call Me Savage looks great. I'll second that one just for the nose art.

Re: How many would like HobbyMaster to make a P-61 Black Widow

Went to my pop's house and took a picture of the Blackwidow i built about 8yrs ago for him.It is a 1/48 scale kit."Times a Wastin" this is the highest scoring P-61 ace during WWII.
JP

The P-61 Black Widow was the heaviest aircraft ever to bear the Pursuit
designation for the USAAF. Armed with four .50cal machine guns, four 20mm
cannon, and equipped with an airborne interception radar, the P-61 was very
effective in the Pacific and scored the last "kill" of WWII. Overall, it's a
heavily armed, prized, twin engine nightfighter.
The Black Widow did not rack up an impressive list of kills. Its entry into the war was relatively late, at a time when the Allies had already established almost complete control of the air. Consequently, enemy aircraft were at this time relatively few and far between, even at night. Nevertheless, there were a few Black Widow aces. In accounting for Black Widow aces, there is a complication since the aircraft had more than one crew member. Does only the pilot get credit for the kill, or does the radar operator get credit as well? What happens if the pilot has had different radar operators on different missions? What if a radar operator has had more than one pilot? In the European theatre, there was an additional complication because some of the Black Widow kills were against unmanned V-1 'buzz bombs". Should these V-1s kills be included in the count? If V-1s are included, and if both pilots and radar operators are to be given credit for the kill, in Europe, there were two sets of pilots and radar operators who achieved six victories. These were the pair 1st Lt. Herman E. Ernst (pilot) and 2nd Lt. Edward H. Kopsel (radar operator) and the pair Lt. Paul A. Smith (pilot) and Lt. Robert E. Tierney (radar operator). One V-1 is included in the count for each pair of crew members. All of these crew members were from the 418th Night Fighter Squadron. The leading Black Widow crew in the Pacific was the pair Major Carrol C. Smith (pilot) and Lt. Philip B. Porter (radar operator) of the 418th Night Fighter Squadron P-61B #403 "Times A Wastin," 418th NFS, Pacific Theatre, 1944.

Re: How many would like HobbyMaster to make a P-61 Black Widow

I have that same kit in my collection as well. It is sitting next to my A-20(another hopeful). The first time an R.A.F. pilot saw an American P-61, he said "Only the Yanks would have balls big enough to call something that big a fighter."

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: How many would like HobbyMaster to make a P-61 Black Widow

These all sound like great paint schemes but do you have any links to pictures of these particular planes? You can post them here or add a link but it would be great if you also emailed them to me admin@hobbymastercollector.com
this way I won't miss any and I will make sure the suggestions as well as the pictures and data gets passed on to the correct people. I have 5 forums to check and read every day so I probably do miss 1 or 2. This isn't a guarantee that Hobby Master will make one but it will insure they get your requests.

Hawk i sent you a email info.
