Red face Sample Pics : Hobby Master CF-104 (Tiger Meet)

Sample Pics : Hobby Master CF-104 Starfighter - 439 Sabre Tooth Tiger Squadron, 1 Canadian Air Group, Baden Germany (Tiger Meet 1972)

Sample pictures as recently announced on the Hobby Master website:

www.hobbymastercollector.com

Looks better than the Witty Wings version (At least the Canopy frames are painted and not left silver).

I don't believe that the CF-104 ever flew with Sidewinder missiles though.

By January 1972, Canada's NATO strike squadrons had lost their nuclear strike role and were changed to the role of
Conventional attack. Aircraft were then modified to carry rockets and bombs, self-protective warning radar, a computing sight,
the Vulcan cannon (not installed until 1974), and switched to olive green camouflage paint schemes with low-viz markings.

Re: Sample Pics : Hobby Master CF-104 (Tiger Meet)

I'm not a great fan of "Circus Planes" but am proud to be a Canadian who will hopefully see one of our 104's done in operational colours one day soon. This does look good
but the blue on the roundel does not appear to be dark enough, I hope they fix it before they release this and the Harvard I have on pre-order.

I will be purchasing this Tiger Meet version. However, I am really looking forward to the one below which is being considered by Hobby Master evidently.

Royal Canadian Air Force CF-104 circa 1962 (Delivery Scheme) complete with Red Ensign (Canada's Flag prior to 1965) and Vicon Recon Pod.

Re: Sample Pics : Hobby Master CF-104 (Tiger Meet)

I agree with the choice of 12701 as a subject model. It was the first 104 built by Canadair in Montreal and if HM includes the Vinten pod
I think I'd be really hard-pressed not to buy it. The natural metal 104's were a daily sight when I was a kid and they always looked like they'd flown out of their paint to me, even on the ground.

Re: Sample Pics : Hobby Master CF-104 (Tiger Meet)

I'd love to see a Silver CF-104. When I was growing up in Great Falls Montana, There would always be a couple of 104's from Cold Lake Alb. at Malmstrom AFB"s annual open house. I remember seeing for the first time the Canadian Armed Forces and Forces Armades Canadian (sorry for the spelling) instead of RCAF.markings. Later When I was in the MTARNG. We flew a UH-1V to an Airshow in Billings and there was a C-47 Dakota with a Starfighter nose on it.BTW There was also a VERY CUTE flight nurse in a Black and yellow trimmed filght suit onboard. She said The Canadian Govt. Gave all the CF-104's to Turkey.
I also remember plenty CF-5's also. The Vikings from Cold Lake stick in my mind. I think their logo was a Viking Ship on the tail. Another Livery for HM to consider when they produce the F-5.

This would be the Dakota, Lakota (sorry), the nose was added to accept the radar suite from the 104 during familiarization training. What do you think, interesting subject for a 72nd scale Dak when somebody does
one?

Re: Sample Pics : Hobby Master CF-104 (Tiger Meet)

I remember a magazine article about the Dakota it was called Pinocchio, and used for low level navigation and radar bombing training. The idea was from left field but worked so well that the CF 104 pilots trained on it could fly at 500 feet in all weather and hit there target and this was in the early 60's. the Americans at first could not believe it as their pilots were flying at 2500 feet.

Well, I looked it up in my starfighter book last night and found out that there were 3 c-47 that were like that. They all had names too, pinocchio, dollys folly and woody woodpecker.
