1/72 Chaffee

The hobbymastercollector site now has the 1/72 Chaffee listed as leaving Hong Kong on June 25th!
It is nice to have some more variety in the 1/72 line. It is listed as M-24 Chaffee Tank, Germany, January 1945

Re: 1/72 Chaffee

I'll get with Hawk to make sure they get the details right. If they use the old Italeri kit that is set up more for MAP than WW2 Germany, there will be issues.

That's awesome! I've been wondering when someone was going to get around to the chaffee! Looking forward to both WW2 and Korea models!

Thanks for the news Juneau! I've been waiting for a quality M-24 Chaffee in 1:72 scale for a long time. Hobbymaster's stuff is really great and gives Dragon and others a good run for their money. Unfortunately it usually takes a few weeks more before Hobby Master's new releases hit the stores in Singapore.

It will be excellent to have your usual tank expertise but why don't you send it directly to William at Hobby Master/ williamliu@hobbymaster.com.hk He is the guy I would end up dealing with so you might as well go direct that way there won't be any delay or anything lost in the transfer.
All your input and the input from everyone is great to see, please keep it up, I'm positive Hobby Master appreciates this so they can make the best possible die-cast models for their price range.

Pedant note: Most modern reference material is quick to point out that in US service the vehicle was only referred to as Light Tank M24. I keep reading the most common unofficial nickname was "Panther Pup". Like Wolverine, “Chaffee” was an official British designation. (And apparently not one that ever made it’s way to the GI’s, like what happened with “Sherman”.) While "Chaffee" caught on with US modeling companies, in US military service the vehicle was just called the M24. While, of course, the model itself is what I’m concerned about the most (such as no wonky track problems), I’d rather not have it incorrectly labeled on its stand.

*If anyone has a period reference, or even a US serviceman’s memoir/interview, that refers to the M24 light tank as the Chaffee I’d be very interested in seeing it. ...I actually wouldn't mind seeing documentation for "Panther Pup" while you're at it! While the US only recognized the “M#” system as a vehicle’s official designation, a search through the Time archives shows that some unofficial nicknames like Stuart, Hellcat, Slugger and Pershing were at least common enough to make into a period publication. (Or at the very least, even existed at the time…Unlike Jackson or Scott… Where the heck did those come from?)

Anyway, I look forward to picking up some M24 light tanks, with and without side skirts if possible. The pictures I've seen of the actual "Ally Oop III" show them removed.
