Hobbymaster 1/48th King Tiger ; Opinions ?

As I'm not aware of how 'good or bad' (?) Hobbymasters rendition of their 1/48th 'King-Tiger' is, I'd like some thoughts/opinions from those guys who actually collect AFV's & maybe own one (or more) of these ????????

Are they any good........?

Subjective points - good or bad, please ??????

I have the "008" Pieper KT and it is an excellent piece.. The details are very crisp and well done (similar to Dragons 1/72) with the only real drawback being the lack of metal content, but I would recommend getting one if you collect this scale..

Here is the link to Hawkone's pics..

I've got three 1/48 HMs alongside my Corgi 1/50th scale. JS 2, King Tiger, and Sherman. They are excellent models but are very light compared to the Corgis. Their new 1/56 Abrams is excellent but a strange scale IMHO.

Re: Hobbymaster 1/48th King Tiger ; Opinions ?

These Königstiger are excellent reproductions; shape and proportions are as accurate as can be, paint and finish are excellent, and the tank's sit and attitude is among the best out there.

Only a few minor details have been simplified by HM (and I still hope they will fix this, given the scale and the fact that the model quality really deserves it!), most noticeably the lift rings on top of the turret, which are solid blobs; however, this can be easily fixed with a small drill bit.

Just open two windows in your screen - one with HM's Tiger, the other with a real Tiger from a wartime photograph, and you'll see how good the model really is!

I have to agree. HM's King Tigers are very good replicas. I've got two, so far, and am considering a third. The first one I purchased had no markings, which I promptly added, and seemed rather light---as did the second. Still, aside from those mild negatives, these models look very much like the real thing.

Sorry Hornchurch, my opinion would be worthless...

Why so, Guy ?

Many thanks for those who've responded so far.........

My Local dealer has these in a sale & there are about x 4 involved.

I'm very grateful for any feedback on these 1/48th versions.... (shame there's not more 'metal' on these)

Re: Hobbymaster 1/48th King Tiger ; Opinions ?

Only bad point is their lack of metal. Mine sit in a cabinet and are not handled so I am the only one that knows the lack of heft in the models. Paint jobs are great and historically acurate. Here are some images of 2 of the Tiger II's as well as a Sherman (also by HM) and a tank destroyer from Tamiya.

Re: Hobbymaster 1/48th King Tiger ; Opinions ?

Hornchurch,

I would definitely recommend their King Tigers. I have 2 of them; one is a Henschel turret and the other is a Porsche turret. Their IS-2 and their Shermans are phenomenal!! Their detail is much better than Corgi or Solido and equal to Tamiya Masterworks, but much less expensive. Corgi has better weathering and is much heavier than HM. Solido is extremely heavy, but does not have the detail that HM has or the weathering, in general, that Corgi has. I cannot comment on Tamiya since I do not have one in my possession, but they look outstanding; from the photos, their detail is excellent and have a metal hull.

Looking forward to annoying the 'former' Florida Diecast Forum members!!
