Re: Hobby Master 1/72 KV-2 is in!

The nex model in the Cromwell family will hopefully exhibit accurate tyres, and no fancy slogans will decorate the upcoming camouflaged KV-2... please HM!

You might be lucky, Chascbv, but I doubt it!

Re: Hobby Master 1/72 KV-2 is in!

In contrast to their previous Cromwell, the Centaur has had its tyres picked out in black, but too much so... The black paint goes over the rim separating tyre from wheel, and partly covers the wheel disk. The right tyre/wheel limits may be seen here: http://www.1jma.dk/Pics/centaur/centaur2.jpg
Aside from this easy-to-correct, almost negligible fault, HM's Centaur is a superb model indeed.

An so is their KV-2, where only the habitual "Za Stalina" slogan is seemingly inaccurate. Watch those nicely done handrails/steps on the turret side and top, and compare these to the solid slab-like ones seen in Easy Models' rendition of this same tank (also with the unavoidable "Za Stalina" slogan!).

The nex model in the Cromwell family will hopefully exhibit accurate tyres, and no fancy slogans will decorate the upcoming camouflaged KV-2... please HM!

No slogans on KV-2s from now on.

Question Re: Hobby Master 1/72 KV-2 is in!

No slogans on KV-2s from now on.

Why is that hawkone? Are the slogans on Russian vehicles not popular? I think that they add a little to the Russian stuff. I like it.

Actually KV-2s didn't wear slogans, only the KV-1 did. I guess the large turret was a big enough target without adding something to draw even more attention. The plastic model companies made the KV-2s with slogan, I guess to dress them up or for whatever reason and all or most of the die-cast companies follow suit until it is brought to their attention. Well Hobby Master is stopping to make them with slogans, I can't speak for any other company.

Actually, pretty much all of the KV-2s were lost in the first weeks of combat way before slogans became the "it" things for the Soviets. Personally, I hate this tank and will only get the white wash version (probably only a few KV-2s survived the early stages of Barbarossa even to get whitewash applied).

Regards,

Sergey

Re: Hobby Master 1/72 KV-2 is in!

I very much appreciate it, Hawkonevoodoo. Your help is indeed most welcome, and the fact that HM is a manufacturer that "listens" (through your kind mediation) is truly impressive.

I also like slogans in Soviet vehicles, Zs-Van, but from existing photographic evidence it seems that no real KV-2 ever had a slogan painted on its turret. The well known "Za Stalina!" appearing in every KV-2 model / kit has been never seen in the real tank. This slogan was popular in the Red Army, and the specific "lettering" represented by HM, Tamiya, Easy Models, etc. is in fact taken from a photograph depicting a KV-1 of 116th Armoured Brigade in 1942. With such a big turret, manufacturers somehow decided to add some "ornamentation" to fill the dull space, and make it look cooler! But it is incorrect from a historical accuracy standpoint.

You and Sergey (Berkut) are the resident Russian experts here and it is very much appreciated. Any comments on Russian vehicles is always welcome because there is so little known about them or it is written in Russian. This all helps to produce an accurate model.

I have already submitted this paint scheme to Hobby Master for future consideration. I got my pictures out of a couple of books, where did you find this picture?
