Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

Nice to here some more tanks are coming out, but a little disappointed with which ones. Both Altaya and Easy Model have pretty nice Pershings. I wish Hobby Master would do one or two of the US Tank detroyers, Russian Tanks destroyers, or more British tanks like the Valentine. I have to admit their KV-1 and Cromwell are as good as Dragon.

I'd also really love to see US tank destoyers. M10s, M18s, M36s...As Far as I know there's none in pre-built 1/72. Now that DML is making Shermans (and I'm sure they'll make them all) we really need someone to complement them with TDs.

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

I am very happy with both the Pershing and T-55, particularly the latter. I find cold-war designs particularly charming, and Arab-Israeli wars (particularly the 6-day and Yom Kippur wars) particularly interesting and fascinating conflicts from the armoured warfare standpoint. Now, what about a T-62, Centurion, M-47, M-48, and/or M-60, HM?

My only complaint is that no unit/location/year info is specified for any of the T-55's announced. I like to have that sort of info on the models I collect, that kinda makes them more meaningful and "real" to me.

Post pictures or links to 10 or more different paint schemes for each type of destroyer you want and I will pass them on to Hobby Master. Needing to make at least 6 - 8 variants of a model just to break even is the biggest factor to be considered by any manufacturer. It's not that Hobby Master doesn't think of a lot of these models, it's a simple matter of there aren't enough variants to make it feasible. The second big consideration is the difficulty of assembly, the longer it takes the higher their cost and you know what that means.

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

Well, regarding the M10 / M36 family of vehicles (hull and running gear in common), the following variants could be modelled, as far as I know:

M10, w/diesel engine
M10A1, w/petrol engine
Achilles IC, based on the M10
Achilles IIC, based on the M10A1
M35 prime mover, based on the M10A1
M36, w/petrol engine
M36B2, w/diesel engine

Now add different camo schemes, field mods, optional equipment, etc, and a fine range of US tank destroyers with their British variants seems quite feasible!

Then do them in 1:48, since HM has already have a tooling for 1:48 M4A3 Sherman, which makes M36B1 a possibility. Furthemore, M10 / M36B2 was used extensively post-WWII including Korean and Indochina wars. Please point the powers to be at HM to Squadron #36 US Tank Destroyers in Action.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

Other fine sources for pictures, profiles, and data include:

M10 and M36 Tank Destroyers 1942-53 by Zaloga & Sarson, New Vanguard 57
US Tank Destroyers Walk Around, Squadron Signal Publications 5703
Several "Hors-Serie" issues in the "Histoire & Collections" series of French monographs (those dealing with the Western Front; lots of Free French schemes)
http://afvdb.50megs.com/usa/index.html (lots of data)
http://www.onwar.com/tanks/ (lots of data)
D-Day Tank Warfare, by Zaloga & Balin, Armor at War series, Concord

The latter reference includes a colour profile of famous "Siroco", a French M10 that knocked out a Panther in a duel in downtown Paris!

Hope this helps!
