Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

I have to say that both the Pershing and T-55 will be welcomed additions to my collection. Sure, the tank destroyers mentioned above would be awesome, but I'm still happy that we are not getting yet another Tiger. (Nothing wrong with Tiger tanks, just that I already have a bunch...)

Anything for a weird life.

US markings:

US earth yellow camo:

French Markings:

US Operation Cobra black bands:

US snow camo:

US broad snow camo:

British Achilles:

Canadian Achilles:

US M36 ETO:

US M36 with multi-tone in Korea:

US M36 whitewashed:

There's some neat post-war European schemes....Here's a Croation M36 in 1993:

M36's were used by the French in Indochina. There's a plate of a tan Egyptain Achilles in the Sinai. M10s were used in North Africa, Italy, France through Germany and the Pacific. There were M10s lend-leased to Russia. As someone mentioned, there's more over-all M10 paint schemes than there are Pershing schemes, plus marking variations between the units. Just something to think about. I understand the extra cost of an open top turret would be reflected in msrp, and that's fine. Maybe the first few can be covered in tarps or armored roofs:

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

Agree with PickMattock. MORE than enough 'schemes' to go ahead with the M10. Especially since the number of schemes hasn't hurt HM's production of the Pershing, which not only had few schemes (only 20 or so used in action in WW2) even if you count postwar/Korea, but also faces competition in the form of 3-4 readily available types currently available from Easy Model for about $10. As nice as HM's quality? Arguably VERY close, and half the price!

M10 would be a safer bet in the sales department, but so would a PZ IV and that hasn't stopped everyone from making that one, either!

"Arguably" must be the key word here, LOL. The Easy Models Pershing isn't bad but not all that either. Guess we'll see in September when Hobby Masters first Pershing is released. Perfect for a comparison between the three companies that will have them in 1/72 prebuilt form.

I agree with everyone on the M10 and M36 and especially the Panzer IV (though CDC made them which are usually available on Ebay).

Sorry to say this, I don't think CDC Panzer is easy to find on ebay. And whenever it is available, its price is way way out of reasonable range.

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

I would not complain if HM decided to release a Koenigstiger in 1/72nd scale. Yes, I know there's zillions of Tigers out there, and most are very acceptable reproductions.

However, a good Koenigstiger with zimmerit is still due in this scale. Dragon efforts are pretty good, but two issues arise: first, it should be remembered that all Porsche-turreted tanks had factory-applied zimmerit, while only initial batches had it among those fitted with the production (Henschel) turret, which Dragon does not always comply with. Then, Dragon zimmerit is reproduced at the expense of detail deletions, and the tradeoff is not always acceptable IMHO. In the case of Koenigstigers all tools, hangers, tow cables, etc., are absent from Dragon's zimmerit-coated versions, which gives them a pretty odd look! In contrast, their non-zimmeritted versions (Henschel turrets, of course) are excellent models.

HM could downscale their 1/48th rendition of this tank, which is very, very good. The upcoming Porsche-turreted version with the mandatory zimmerit coat looks simply great (only exhausts and turret-top lift rings should be replaced with more realistic (hollowed) parts for an almost perfect model. Please HM!).

Research is already done, there's plenty of schemes available, and - as a bonus - sales of course can be taken for granted for anything with the name Tiger on it!

My apologies for advocating for still more Tigers...

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

On the Panzer III and Panzer IV front, looking at the MRC catalog, they have 15 Panzer III's announced and 15 Panzer IV's announced. Although, who knows what the quality will be like. I would not complain about Hobby Master doing these tanks too. However, a Panzer II and Hetzer would give armour that no one is doing at all.

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

The CDC tanks are a little hard to find, except the Shermans, which I see on ebay all the time. The Panthers appear once in a while, same with the PZ IVs. I have about 15 of the PZIVs. I started buying them ca. 1997 and ordered them wherever I could find them - at that time, stores had them. They are very nice, and metal. Matchbox re-issued some of these, also nice. I too am a sucker for a Tiger!

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

Pass on to Hobbymaster that we need a nice 1:72 JS-2. There's easily 10 schemes there, with green/winter/Berlin striped, and endless slogan/unit markings.

DONE!!!!

Re: More 1/72 diecast tanks from Hobby Master

I really like that Hobby Master is doing a proper WWII Pershing. I have both the Altaya and Easy Models Pershing, if Hobby Master continues with the high quality as seen in their first 2 1/72 scale releases, their Pershing will be superior.

Hawkonevoodoo,

You may want to suggest to Hobby Master that they do the exact Pershing as seen in the infamous black and white footage that took out the Panther in Cologne, Germany 1945.

If you want to supply me with some data about this tank and incident I will do my best. When, where, any pictures or links, whatever else would be appreciated. All this information seems to help bring a model closer to production if they don't have to spend countless hours researching each and every request.
