Re: Metal content of 1/56 Tiger Is

This is from my review of HG1101 IS-2:
"The hull is made entirely of metal with no slug fastened inside to give you the false impression that the hull is made from heavy die-cast metal.(first sentence paragraph 2)
The turret as well as the main gun is made of metal. (first sentence paragraph 4)"

Excellent, sorry for making you repeat what you already have on your web site. I should check it more regularly.

I can't wait for this thing to be in the stores.

Re: Metal content of 1/56 Tiger Is

Well, back to the original question on the 1/56 Tiger I. I received one today as it has been highly recommended by others. I was not disappointed as it is a superb model . (Finish and detail excellent and good suspension/tracks .)

Some caveats are in order though. Firstly, the packaging is a little flimsy and the model could definitely come with an acrylic display case such as those provided by Dragon (1/72). Although the metal content is similar to that of earlier Dragon Tiger Is, there is still an over reliance on plastic (metal barrel and deck would be nice and I'm not convinced by the argument that plastic is required for greater detail). The Dragon 1/35 scale is far superior in detail and this 1/56 version compares favourably with their (Dragon's) 1/72 products.

All in all this is a very nice model but it could have been better (even if the cost were a couple of dollars higher). I still believe that the Corgi 1/50 range is the current benchmark title holder for armour in this scale as they're solid and have both the necessary detail and 'heft' (with excellent weathering).

One sheep to rule them all ...
