F-104G "Richthofen" is nicht gut mein friend...

I finally saw it in the flesh and I am deeply unimpressed. Whatever criticism I had for ealier Herpa releases, this one wipes them away single-hand for being such a fiasco...
1) panel lines are too wide, too shallow, look like hand-carved
2) clear plastic canopy is barely clear, railing/frame is so thick and poorly moulded!
3) there is a huge gap between the wing and the fuselage, as well as the exhaust
4) pitot tube is huge, thick and looks like a third sidewinder
5) no air-intakes moulded, only grey paint to simulate it.

overall, i think this is a roughly improvised release and does look like a far cry from the releases we've been getting so far. Candy toys pose a serious threat for price/quality against this pricey little piece of diecast.

two last images, notice the single mould for the tailhook and ventral fin...and the huge "pitot tube" (AKA "third sidewinder"). Panel lines on the F-22 now look subtle by comparison (and it is not because of the silver paint, or different light conditions).

Thumbs down Re: F-104G "Richthofen" is nicht gut mein friend...

That might be the worst die-cast I have seen . It looks worse than the toys from the dollar store I get my one year old to play with . I'm not a rivet counter either. That nose gear looks pretty funny.

Re: F-104G "Richthofen" is nicht gut mein friend...

I am not joking, I do collect these 1/200 little diecasts to complEment (thanks Skunky) my airliners, and this is so far the worst I've seen, even when compared to 1/144 plastic "trading toys" from Japan...Attached is a picture I took from a shop display, it is a 1/144 plastic toy sold for probably a third of the price of that Herpa diecast, it's blurry and it was taken in a rush but you get the idea.

Maybe they got the people who designed FM's 1/48th mold to design this...FM's 104 isn't too impressive, either.

b, do your airliners suffer from inferiority complexes?....

I understand completely as I'm always fishin' for pats on the back too....
