Here is a close-up with flash, so you can see the panel lines better, and the striking thing is that a plastic toy has consistent panel lines, while the Herpa "diecast" looks like carved by shaky hands...

Re: F-104G "Richthofen" is nicht gut mein friend...

If this F-104 would have been done by WAC (aka Gulliver200) it would look a lot better.
I have a lot of WAC 1:200 models and when compared with Herpa, the WAC models are superior in detailing, quality & accuracy.

Example:
Compare the Herpa's (two seat) SU-27 with WAC's SU-27 (single seat) you will see the difference immediatelly.
The WAC quality & accuracy is superior in all aspects, compared with Herpa's model...

I am not sure I can agree with you on this one. The F-14 would be a better example, but then again there's people out there very anal about the Tomcat and can count the rivets even in 1/200 so I could be wrong.

The WAC Flanker is over stretched, and the canopy is just not properly shaped (it becomes more apparent when elarged to 1/72 (and sold as "Witty"), the Hogan (previously sold as "Herpa") Su-27UB is more accurate (look at the more to-scale IFF antennae on the sides of the air intake), shape of the nose cone and cockpit. The panel lines on the double seater are less pronounced too. I do find the missles more detailed/thin on the WAC Flanker.

Re: F-104G "Richthofen" is nicht gut mein friend...

The Herpa's SU-27 antennas are way oversized and thick, especially the ones behind the cockpit...
The WAC version (being a single seater) is overall, in my opinion...a better model.
As of the F-14...Herpa's and WAC's reproductions are very close to one another.

The best Herpa's 1:200 model reproductions, in my opinion are:

F-14 Tomcat
Eurofighter EF 2000 - Typhoon
F-16 ELT
F/A 18 Super Hornet

I am stressing: the IFF antennae located by the sides of the air intakes...they are WAY too oversized on the WAC, and more stylized on the Herpa. I need both the single and UB versions in my collection so I am glad they're there.

Back to the F-104, there is no Hogan stamp on the box this time,so I am pretty sure Herpa found a new manufacturer, which would explain the inconsitent quality compared to previous Herpas!

Have you put those F-14's side by side? I don't think they are very close to one another. But I like the sweeping wings of WAC and the Canopy of Herpa's
Plus, WAC's weapons are better

I do not have a Herpa 1:200 F-14 Tomcat model.
WAC version is the only one I have. I had a chance to check and compare the Herpa F-14 with WAC at the hobby store.
I think that both Herpa's & WAC's reproductions are very close.
