| Herpa 1/400 Catalina I don't collect 1/400 military releases so had missed out on the first couple Herpa 1/400 PBY Catalina models. But they have put out a nice civilian one that doesn't cost $60 like the darn Cathay Pacific one so I picked it up. This is a PBY-5A Catalina of Alaska Coastal Ellis Airlines. Herpa also have two wartime versions of the Catalina available. I know we don't have a ton of 1/400 collectors here but thought it was interesting to see what can be done in this scale as compared to the 1/72 Corgi version. What you are looking at here is 2 inches long with a 3 inch wingspan. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Herpa 1/400 Catalina 1250, Thanks for the photos. Now if they had done it in 1/200 I would have been twice as interested. Ron | |||||||||||||

| Re: Herpa 1/400 Catalina
I'm sure they can do it in 1/200 if they are inclined to. Just a question of whether they think they will sell enough to make it worthwhile. I'm also sure if they did it in 1/200 we'd hear lots of people complaining that they didn't do it in 1/144.

| Re: Herpa 1/400 Catalina
and could fly off the table if you sneeze on it! I have a lot of 1/400's (civilian, except the B-2 Spirit being refuelled by a KC-10)...and only thought for a second about purchasing the Cathay Pacific one...a second only. The price tag on that particular little piece was not Herpa's idea at all. In fact, the "limited edition" of 6000 units has (obviously) not sold out and now are going for 320HK$ If my memory fails me not. I think I saw one or two 1/400 C-47s or DC-3s out there too, not sure because they are just too tiny for my short attention span. 1250ships is so right, if someone started a 1/200 civilian collection, he would probably prefer that scale for an incursion on military planes, but old school guys would probably prefer 1/144...I do have 1/200 fighter jets as mentioned in another post, and they are big and detailed enough to keep me looking at them.
