Re: Herpa Fighter Jets

I don't mind their size. Actually, if they are small (1/200) and detailed as their bigger counterparts (1/72, 1/48), even better!
I have a large collection of 1/400 airliner diecasts and they can get quite interesting when fully decorated. I also have some 1/200 fighter jet models from WAC, and they also look quite decent.

I think the Raptor is not one of the best examples of what small scale modelling can offer. The F/A-18F Diamondbacks is quite nice, esp with ground equipment and staff!

I say keep 'em comin' !

Re: Herpa Fighter Jets

The F/A-18F looks good. Also looks like Herpa will be doing at Typhoon and CFT F-16.

The Typhoon looks a bit rough, probably an early sample. I hope these little models look better up close and personal because their competition does a great job (WAC).

I am picky about 1/200 details even though it seems a bit too tough on the manufactureres, but keep in mind the unit price for these little things is close their 1/72 counterparts in most cases...They maybe small, but they are models and quite expensive at that.

Re: Herpa Fighter Jets

Does anyone have information on the new 1:200 scale Herpa fighter jets.

I think there were 3 being released this fall.

Is there a US website that would sell these?

You can find these at diecastairplane.com. They also sell a line of Herpa 1/400 models of the Ju-52 (2 versions) and PBY. Talk about small...

(The aforementioned company is very reliable; I've done e-business with them for a couple of years without a hitch. Your problem is their problem, and they take customer-service seriously.)

P.S. I just noticed again, there is a similarity in the name of their Web page and mine, but that is where the similarity ends. Except for being a loyal customer, I have no other affiliation with this online seller.

Picky: me too! I'm much more so than with 1/72 stuff. Also, I love these smaller scales, and have around 125 of the 1/400 airliners and such from various manufacturers. To me, these things are like little jewels, and that is how I treat them--each packed away safely to be taken out occasionally for viewing!. (However, there's no way I can afford 1/200 airline models--way out of my price league.)

Note: I just received a copy of the Aurora 1/400 Playboy DC-9, in glossy black. If you're into 1/400, get this thing. It's gorgeous!

F-22 review

Just got my F-22. Looks better than the photo. The top side is pretty detailed, but the underside and undercarriage leave a bit to be desired. I guess it's appropriate there's no pilot in the cockpit, because it appears to have intake covers installed.

Overall, not quite as nice as World Aircraft Collection. For the money, you're probably better of going with the 1/72 version, but if you're into 1/200, its not a bad piece.

Re: Herpa Fighter Jets

Hoverbug, pictures please maybe with a 1:72 scale plane alongside or a coffee mug.

Finally found a supplier here...about 975 miles west by southwest.

They will be getting the accessories as well.

Does anyone know if tarmac is available at this scale. I know Herpa has a whole aiport diorama for 1:400....how about 1:200?

I agree, got the F-14 Tomcat and for the price, you'd expect at least better QC. The first one had a sidewinder missing, went back to the shop to exchange it when I found out. The one they offered me (toymax in Hong Kong btw) had a twisted nosegear and some paint smudges. One of them quite prominent on the wing.

Again, for the price you'd expect better QC. I have nothing against the details on the small scale...but so far World Aircraft Collection seems to be doing a better job, albeit with no new moulds in sight yet, neither US liveries on the F-15 or the F-4 they have in their pockets.

Re: Herpa Fighter Jets

We carry these in stock and I was quite surprised at the level of quality of these models as soon as I received that first release, the SU-27. I am having difficulties with the price though and can understand how hard it may be for a collector to justify them at the current pricing but it is a common problem with all Herpa products in all scales since instead of selling them to distribution directly in the US from their factories in China and in US dollars, they have them shipped to Germany and then send them to the US based on Euro Dollars pricing which is pretty high at the moment.
I agree with the consensus about the quality of both the Raptor and the Tomcat but hopefully the next 2 releases (an F/A-18F and a Eurofighter) will be much better, and less expensive. They are a pretty good compliment if you collect 1/200 scale models.
Herpa will also be releasing military Ground Support Vehicles, Hangars, and personnel as well.
I took photos of the above models once I received them in stock and if you want to you can check them out at aerojets.com there are also manufacturers pictures for the items on pre order.
