Re: Del Prado M1A1 Abrams

Hey thnx again. You've heard of this brand called vsTank ?? They do RC and diecast models of Tiger in 1/24 scale. I saw one RC at the Toy Room in Suntec. Not sure about the diecst model but it looks awesom !!!. Heres a pic of the model

Yup, I came across it previously. There's a recent thread and some photos on VS tanks in the ground vehicle models section. The R/C models are selling for S$199 each (approx. US$145). I'm still dithering whether to get a static VS model, which is around half the price i.e. S$99 (approx. US$70). The models look very well made and very cool. I particularly like the wooden display base, which costs another S$32 (approx.US$24).

Hmmm...perhaps I should get a static Tiger I or an M1A2 Abrams . Either one would look good in my office.

Re: Del Prado M1A1 Abrams

Why would you want to get a static model? Agreed, they look fairly nice, but for about the same price you can get a Minichamps on ebay - and they're made of metal and probably more detailed.

Well, I'm thinking of getting both the VS and Minichamps! Afterall, both are in different scales and if the models are well-made, one can never hav enough of them. Heehee! The 1/35 Minichamps will sit nicely in my collector's showcase at home whereas the 1/24 VS with the display base fits perfectly in my office.

Sure, get both.

I'm curious about something though. I've seen a number of people in this forum indicate they display models in their offices. I can't help wondering what kind of offices those are, and the nature of their business. I find it a little curious, because in the US it would be considered somewhat odd to display military models in a business office - and even odder if they were, say, German WW2 models. The ostensible cultural thought police commissars have been very successful in getting American and European society to self-censor in that manner. Of course, eventually there will be the inevitable backlash, as always, and I only hope I get to see it in my lifetime, but I digress.
I notice you're in Singapore, so you may not be subject to these kind of taboos, but I'm still curious what kind of professional would display these kinds of models in their office. You don't have to divulge, I realize I'm snooping a little, but I'm really curious.

Yup, it's US$11.95 from Monkey Depot, shipping and handling charges excluded. I got it together with several FoV and 21C models a few months back.

No worries mate! Interesting to hear from you the situation in the US. You're right, we don't have such taboos in Singapore. Ultimately in Singapore, a lot depends on the office culture in the company or organisation we work for, be it in the government or private sector. In the organisation that I am in, I am fortunate in the sense that my bosses respect the personal space of its employees. I have colleagues who display their transformer toys, Japanese anime figurines and even stuff toys at their work stations. I can say with some certainty that this is not peculiar to my workplace as many of my peers working in other organisations similarly enjoy substantial latitude in "expressing themselves", so long as the get their work done of course!
